Wichita Falls ISD Semester Exams 2017-2018 Information for Students Revised 10.23.2017
Exam Exemption Policy (Revised 2017) Students in Grade 9 must take semester exams. Exemptions are based on semester grades and attendance, on a class-by-class basis. Students with excessive tardies and class cuts can lose exemption privileges.
From: WFISD Board Policy EIAA(REGULATION) Grade 9 (and below). All students currently enrolled in grade 9 and below must take semester exams in every class (except PE). Grades 10-12. Students currently in grades 10-12 can be exempt from the semester exam in a specific high school course if the following conditions are met: The student has no outstanding fines or fees owed to the school. The student has not been placed in a disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP) during the semester. The student’s grade and attendance in the course meet one of the criteria listed below. Semester Average Attendance 70 – 74 AND 0 absences 75 – 79 AND 1 or fewer absences 80 – 89 AND 2 or fewer absences 90 – 100 AND 3 or fewer absences Regardless of these exemption criteria, a student will be required to take all semester exams if, during the semester, the student meets any of the four criteria below. The student accumulates 20 or more tardies. The student is placed in ISS two or more times. The student accumulates 6 or more class cuts. The student was suspended from school. Related facts: For purposes of semester examination exemption only, absences will mean those absences that are not excused by Education Code Section 25.087. [See FEC, EIAA(EXHIBIT), and FEA(REGULATION)] A student may be exempt in one class but may not meet the requirements for exemption in another class. Students who qualify for an exemption can still choose to take the semester examination to improve their grade. Students who qualify for an exemption are required to attend the closure period, and must still meet attendance requirements on exam days. On each day of the semester examinations, high school students who have transportation may leave the building when they have completed all scheduled examination periods. If they must wait for bus transportation, they will be required to go to a supervised study hall. No one will be allowed in the halls, the student center, or empty classrooms.
Schedule for Exam Weeks (2017 – 2018) Except for classes at the CEC, exams will be held the last three days of the semester. Closure periods precede exams. Closure periods are either 50 or 60 minutes. Exams periods are 70 minutes.

I’m a CEC student. What’s my schedule during exam week?
On Monday-Tuesday (December 11-12): Follow your regular schedule. Students who are required to take exams for CEC courses will start these tests in class on Tuesday. On Wednesday-Thursday-Friday (December 13-14-15): Stay at your home campus. (Do not come to the CEC. Buses will not run.) For periods when you would normally attend (or be traveling to) the CEC… During morning closure periods for CEC times, you must report to your school’s auditorium. Students who are required to take exams for CEC courses will finish these tests during closure periods. During afternoon exam periods for CEC times… If you need to stay at school, report to the auditorium. If you need clock hours for your career certification area, you can follow your teacher’s instructions on how to do this. If all other exemption criteria are met, you may leave campus.
