Sustainable Tourism For Development​ - Glossary of Terms & Guide Environmental ​- ​relating to the ​natural world ​ and the impact of human activity on its condition. Green​ ​Tourism​ - low impact, environmentally-friendly tourism that c​ herishes ​ , not destroys. Responsible​ ​Tourism ​- managing tourism to achieve sustainability objectives such as, minimizing negative social, economic and​ environmental ​ impacts, generating greater economic benefits for local people and enhancing the well-being of host communities. Sustainable​ - able to last or continue for a long time; involving methods that do not completely use up or destroy natural resources. Tourism​ - the activity of traveling to a place for pleasure; or the business of encouraging and serving such traveling. Guiding Framework The UN designation for 2017 is ​International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development​. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) describes it as "a unique opportunity to raise awareness on the contribution of sustainable tourism to development among public and private sector decision-makers and the public, while mobilizing all stakeholders to work together in making tourism a catalyst for positive change." The ​International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development​ ​2017​ will promote tourism’s role in the following five key areas: (1)

Inclusive and sustainable economic growth

Social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction

(3)

Resource efficiency, environmental protection and climate change

(4)

Cultural values, diversity and heritage

(5)

Mutual understanding, peace and security.

The adoption for 2017 was also in keeping with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, some of which include: ● ● ● ● ●

Entries will be judged on the premise that ample research has gone into what is produced.
