OFFSHORE ENGINEERED ENCLOSURE REPAIR UK, OCTOBER 2017
Project Overview During an unscheduled shutdown of a major oil company’s FPSO in the North Sea UK, routine inspection identified severe atmospheric corrosion on a 2” branch connected to a 10” produced water line. Concern that the branch would leak on start-up of the system, potentially causing a catastrophic failure which would require further shut down of the installation, an immediate repair was required. Surface preparation was not possible due to the severe corrosion, so NRI recommended a perimeter seal enclosure to encapsulate the entire branch leg. Design conditions of the system were: Service: Hydrocarbon / water 2” to 10” blanked drain point Design pressure: 25 bar (363 psi) Design Temperature: -10 to 120°C (14 to 248°F) NRI’s technicians were already on-board for another repair so a detailed measure up was completed the same day. The measure up drawings were sent back to NRI’s engineering team on the beach and within 2 hours, an enclosure design with supporting calculations was completed along with full specification. Once the design and specification were approved by the client, the enclosure was manufactured, delivered, fitted and installed within 4 days.
