EMPLOYEES​ ​DIAGNOSED​ ​AS​ ​HAVING​ ​A COMMUNICABLE​ ​DISEASES Background The​ ​district​ ​recognizes​ ​the​ ​rights​ ​of​ ​the​ ​individual​ ​who​ ​has​ ​contracted​ ​a​ ​communicable​ ​disease to​ ​be​ ​protected.​ ​The​ ​district​ ​also​ ​recognizes​ ​the​ ​responsibility​ ​to​ ​maintain​ ​a​ ​safe​ ​work​ ​and/or learning​ ​environment​ ​within​ ​the​ ​guidelines​ ​set​ ​out​ ​in​ ​the​ ​Alberta​ ​Public​ ​Health​ ​Act. Procedures 1. The​ ​Superintendent,​ ​Human​ ​Resources​ ​will​ ​take​ ​measures​ ​to​ ​inform​ ​administrators, directors,​ ​managers​ ​and​ ​supervisors​ ​about​ ​the​ ​rights​ ​of​ ​the​ ​individual​ ​and​ ​the​ ​role​ ​of​ ​the employer​ ​when​ ​dealing​ ​with​ ​communicable​ ​diseases​ ​in​ ​the​ ​workplace. 2. The​ ​district​ ​will​ ​consult​ ​with​ ​Alberta​ ​Health​ ​Services​ ​and​ ​will​ ​follow​ ​the​ ​regulations​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Public Health​ ​Act​ ​and​ ​guidelines​ ​outlined​ ​under​ ​section​ ​10​ ​of​ ​the​ ​districts​ ​Occupational​ ​Health​ ​and​ ​Safety Manual​ ​when​ ​confronted​ ​with​ ​any​ ​and​ ​all​ ​communicable​ ​disease​ ​cases. 3. Employees​ ​diagnosed​ ​as​ ​having​ ​a​ ​communicable​ ​disease​ ​may​ ​be​ ​directed​ ​to​ ​seek counselling​ ​to​ ​assist​ ​them​ ​in​ ​dealing​ ​with​ ​the​ ​personal,​ ​medical​ ​or​ ​financial​ ​problems​ ​that may​ ​result. 3.1

The​ ​Superintendent,​ ​Human​ ​Resources​ ​will​ ​provide​ ​the​ ​appropriate​ ​support​ ​to affected​ ​employees​ ​having​ ​due​ ​consideration​ ​for​ ​the​ ​well-being​ ​and​ ​right​ ​to confidentiality​ ​of​ ​all​ ​concerned.

4. When​ ​an​ ​employee​ ​knows,​ ​or​ ​has​ ​reason​ ​to​ ​believe,​ ​that​ ​an​ ​individual​ ​under​ ​their supervision​ ​or​ ​control​ ​is​ ​infected​ ​with​ ​a​ ​communicable​ ​disease​ ​as​ ​described​ ​in​ ​the​ ​Public Health​ ​Act​ ​and​ ​its​ ​regulations,​ ​that​ ​employee​ ​shall​ ​notify​ ​the​ ​Superintendent,​ ​Human Resources,​ ​who​ ​will​ ​in​ ​turn​ ​notify​ ​Alberta​ ​Health​ ​Services.
