Dear Cherokee Nation Employees and Citizens of the Nation, Saturday at midnight I will take leave from the Nation as your Principal Chief as stated in the Constitution and the laws of the Nation. In the interim I will focus on the re-election for this important position that I have been honored to accept in the past. I am confident that I shall return after the election and resume our course. I look forward to working alongside with you to continue making the Cherokee Nation a respected and trustworthy government - for all the world to admire. Thanks to your efforts and support we are stronger than ever before. I am always impressed with the accomplishments that you have made and the success we have enjoyed through hard work and dedication to our vision. Please continue your good work for the Cherokee people. In the interim, hopefully for about six weeks, Joe Crittenden and Meredith Frailey will be your Principal Chief and Deputy Principal Chief. I know that you will give them your full support to continue serving our citizens. On Saturday my family and I will lay to rest our beloved Mother and Grandmother until we can meet together with her again. Your thoughts, prayers of support and most of all your kindness will always be a treasured memory for us, we will never forget.
