RAMAIAH INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (MSRIT), an Autonomous Institution affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University is a pioneer in the field of Technical and Management education established in 1962 by the great visionary Dr. M.S. Ramaiah. The college got academic autonomy in the year 2007. It is NBA accredited and ISO 9001:2008 certified Institution. NAAC accredited A Grade Institute & Ranked No. 45 among the top Engineering Institutions across the country by NIRF.
ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES The Department of Management Studies was established in the year 1998 with an objective of bringing out high-quality professional managers to meet the emerging and ever growing demands and challenges of the industry in an ethical and socially responsible manner. Since inception, the Department has shown remarkable growth in the direction of achievement of its objectives.
ABOUT THE SEMINAR According to the reports by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Google India, around 75 per cent of transactions in India in the year 2015 were cash based whereas it was just 25 per cent in developed countries namely US, Japan, France and Germany. Demonetization in India has a brought a need for a cashless environment. This is evident from the fact that there is a considerable increase in the number of daily transactions through e-wallet services from 17 lakh — recorded on November 8, 2016 when demonetization was announced to 63 lakh as on December 7 ,2016 (a growth of 271%) and in terms of value, the increase has been 267%, from Rs.52 crore to Rs.191 crore daily. The government of India continuously insists on creating a cashless society. A significant benefit of cashless economy is that it would bring down the cost of printing, managing and moving money around, risk of carrying currency notes, problems of cash out on long holidays, prevents money laundering and increase tax compliance. Thus greater revenue would be available for state and the central governments to fund various welfare activities. With this background, a two days national seminar on ‘Empowering Indian Society Towards Cashless Economy’ has been conceived insisting a timely shift from traditional economy to cashless economy. The objectives of the seminar are to provide an in-depth understanding of the necessity of transforming the existing society into a cashless economy, to emphasize the benefits of being cashless society and to update the participants with available modes of electronic payment and also promotional schemes of Government of India.
