Community Clean-up Guidelines 2017 Community Clean-up is a General Fund Program* intended to provide any Fairfax County community with a method to keep their subdivision properties clean and free of bulky debris not normally collected by their regular refuse collection service. This service is not intended to replace regular refuse collection services nor to provide disposal of material resulting from land clearing, construction or remodeling. * Continuation of community clean ups is subject to annual funding.

To qualify for a community clean-up your subdivision must contain a minimum of 50 homes that will be notified of the date for the clean-up. The County will provide the necessary equipment and personnel at a single stationary location selected by the community and approved by the County.

Community Responsibilities and Acknowledgements: 1.

Due to limited funding and yearly demand, only one clean-up per community will be scheduled each year.

2.

Clean-ups will be scheduled on a first come first served basis. Community representatives must call the Refuse Collection Office at (703) 550-3486 after January 1 to schedule a date. Community clean-ups may only be scheduled on Saturdays between the hours of 8:00AM -12:00PM. Clean-ups will be scheduled starting on the first Saturday in March through the third Saturday of October.

3.

The community will need to provide the following information to the Refuse Collection Office: community name; contact name and address; telephone number and email address (if possible).

4.

Once annual funding is exhausted, no additional clean- ups will be scheduled for the remainder of the year. The County operates on a fiscal year from July 1 to June 30.

5.

The Community is responsible for annually selecting and acquiring permission for the site where their clean-up is to be held. Locations are typically school parking lots or community recreation centers.

6.

Users must follow directions of County personnel to assure the safety of the public and county staff.

7.

There must be a representative(s) of the community on site during the hours of the scheduled clean-up operation.

8.

No material is to be placed on the ground prior to the designated start time or after closing time.

9.

The community will be responsible for any final policing of the grounds if needed.

10.

The community representative is responsible for distribution of these rules to all homes in the community prior to the scheduled clean-up day.

11.

This program is intended to provide collection of: large appliances, furniture, lawn mowers (with gas and oil removed), tires (limit four, off rims), etc.

The following items will not be collected as part of the community clean-up: Normal household refuse, brush, yard waste, rocks, brick, concrete, stone, dirt, motor oil, car batteries, paint, roofing shingles, drywall, asbestos, glass, hazardous chemicals and pesticides, toxic waste, animal waste and explosives. ***Other items may be subject to approval by the County ***
