Michigan teams must be aligned to the progression below in order to compete in events and be eligible for FIM/MDE/sponsor grants Multiple teams from a single school/organization are encouraged and each team within the school/organization is eligible for all grants. OVERVIEW
Based on an annual theme, teams build a LEGO® model and develop a research poster to illustrate their discoveries. Teams participate in Expos.
Based on an annual theme, teams build a robot to perform a series of missions and design a solution to a real-world problem. Teams compete in a qualifier.
Teams design, build, and program robots to compete in an alliance format at events. Robots are programmed using Java and are powered by Android technology.
The ultimate varsity sport where teams of high school students and their industry mentors design and build large scale robots to battle in fierce 3 vs. 3 competitions.

* Grant Requirements: 1) must be in correct program 2) must be associated with a school or 501c3 organization 3) must be registered for current season and have a team number 4) K-3 teams must attend 1 official expo, late elementary/middle school teams must compete in 1 Michigan qualifier, high school teams must compete in 2. - Ford Motor Co. and Dow grants: Employee of Ford / Dow must serve as an active mentor on the team. - MDE FIRST Robotics State grant: Teams must be affiliated with a MDE recognized public or private school/charter/academy. - FTC Team Grants: FIRST HQ grants are needs based. FIRST HQ & FiM FTC Rookie grants work together to a max of $1,300. Teams must apply for the FIRST HQ grant. ** Season Pass: Provides for multiple kits with discounted registration fee. Drawback is that only one team is eligible to compete and is eligible for grants.
