Leaves opposite small, cupped below, ovate 5.0 x 2.2 cm. mostly uniform, medium flat green color above, below much lighter, most leaf pairs turned to one side of the stem. Petioles curved 1 cm. or less long, not grooved above, very small rudimentary glands at attachment to the blade. Measurements of above leaves: apex blunt obtuse, base cuneata. Length: 4.5 - 4.75 cm. Nerve angle 50˚. Width: 1.75 - 2.00 cm.

From the type description Leaves opposite (but not always, rarely one aborts becoming pseudo-alternate), oblong, glabrous, fleshy, dried led-grey, with the base acute, with the apex acute-acuminate, distinctly triple-nerved, 14-20 cm. long and 6 - 7½ cm. wide. Petioles 2 - 2½ cm. long, thickened, glabrous. It appears this species is palmately nerved (nerves arise at the base). The petioles appear as if they may be grooved but I am not certain.

From the type description. No description only a photo of the foliage. The typical leaf is elliptic-lanceolate with a long acuminate apex, base narrowly rounded. Blade is 10 cm. long x 2.5 cm. wide near the base. The petiole is grooved above, 1 cm. long x 0.09 cm. in diameter. Nerves are pinnate 7 or so on each side, at from a 30º to nearly perpendicular angle to the midrib; anastomosing. From the type description A strong dangling, creeping glabrous vine with opposite leaves, obovate to ovatelanceolate, base cuneate, edges entire, with apiculate acute apex. Blades usually somewhat cupped, waxy medium green upper surface, lighter beneath. Pinnate venation 3 veins on either side of midrib not readily visible (in contrast to those of H. finlaysonii Wight) 4 ½” – 6” long 2- 2 ½” widest near the middle or beyond.

From the type description From Elmer’s description: Leaves coriaceous and subglaucous, more or less persistent, glabrous, opposite or in subwhorles at the ends of abortive branchlets, quite variable in size and shape, entire, narrowly oblong to rotund, most of them are from 2-3.5 cm. long and from 6-10 mm. wide across the middle or widest portion, the rotund ones measure 10 by 12 mm., the normal or the oblong blades equally tapering toward both ends, obtuse to subacute or even rounded for the smaller rotund to elliptic blades which are in the minority, flat, grayish to brown on my dry specimen; midrib quite fine or obscure, plainer on the lower surface, lateral nerves none, only the upper side marked with faint transverse lines; petioles 3-5 mm. long or much shorter, dark brown, crinkle rugose when dry, leaving orbicular flat scares upon falling. From Burton’s description: Leaves coriaceous and subglaucose, glabrous, quite variable in size and shape, entire, narrowly oblong to round, most 2- 3.5 cm. long, 0.6-1.0 cm. wide. The rotund leaves 1.0 by 1.2 cm., the oblong blades tapering at both ends, obtuse to subacute, the round ones of course rounded, flat, midrib quite fine and obscure, more visible on the lower surface, lateral veins none, upper surface marked with fine transverse lines. Petioles 0.3-0.5 cm. long or much shorter, leaving orbicular scars when falling.

From the type description Elmer’s description: Leaves scattered along all the branches, opposite, falling glabrous, smooth and glossy especially on the upper side, entire, diverse in size but not in shape, flat, elliptic to obovately oblong in the longer ones, the smaller subelliptic blades 2 by 3 cm, the others up to 10 cm long and nearly 4 cm wide across the middle or a little above this, gradually tapering to the acute to subacuminate apex, the smaller ones are broadly obtuse at the base, the largest leaves cuneate, sometimes slenderly cuneate, all gradations between these extremes, similarly curing yellowish brown to grayish on both sides; midrib not prominent, very shallowly depressed on the upper face, straight from the base to the apex; lateral nerves faint, 3 to 5 on each half of the leaf blade, quite oblique especially the basal ones, obscurely forked and more or less anastomosing at their ends, reticulations none; petioles 5 to 10 mm long or even up to 1.5 cm in length, likewise glabrous, dirty brown and rugose when dry, caniculate on the upper side. Leaves opposite, fleshy, when dry leathery, pale, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, somewhat thin acuminate, bases for the most part acute, obscurely 3 or 5 plinerved, about 10 cm long, 4 to 4.5 cm wide, nerves thin, reticulations irregular; petiole thick, 2 to 2.5 cm long. This species has also been placed into synonymy with H. pottsii Traill so see that file also.

Leaves erect spreading or outspread, petiolate, elliptic obtusely acuminate, leathery, both sides glabrous, petiole short, somewhat thick, above lightly grooved. Leaves 5.5-7.4 cm. long, in the middle 2.3-3.5 cm. wide. Petioles bare, about 0.5 cm. long.

It is difficult to tell the nervation from the type sheet above but I believe it is pinnate with looping anastomosing nervation.

Leaves 3--8 cm long, ovate, acute, without obvious venation, margins on basal half of the leaves thin, pale green. Stems thin, hirsute when young, glabrescent. Petioles 0.5--1 cm. Peduncles more than 5 cm long, hirsute to glabrescent. Umbels concave, positively geotropic, c. 15--30 flowers. Flowers corona yellowish, inner coronal lobe points almost vertically upwards, outer coronal lobes have bilobed extensions with tips that point slightly upwards, corolla dull whitish-red, hirsute on the inside, strongly recurved. Pollinaria caudicles with large wings, retinaculum with very wide groove in the middle.

Leaf margins entire and very lightly revolute, 8 to 16 cm long, 3.2 to 5.2 cm wide, acumen 1.5 to 2 cm long, in the living state lighter green beneath than above. Petioles robust 1 to 1.7 cm long.

The leaves are cordate, sharply acuminate, having occasionally a rusty stairs partly spread over them, beneath of a pale whitish green without veins, above light yellowish green, with three distinct veins of ratter lighter colour than the leaf, from which smaller veins occasionally branch off. The petioles are not particularly thick, and less than half an inch long; they are of the same colour as the stems.

Petiole: 0.5-1.5 cm long, terete, thick, glabrous. Not evidently grooved, deep green. Leaf Blade: 5-14.5 cm. long x 1.5-2.7 cm. wide, thick, succulent, convex to nearly flat on the upper glabrous surface, triangular below and lighter green covered with granulose lighter colored punctations. Upper surface deep green with deeper green edging especially in younger leaves. Some rusty tones may be exhibited in newly formed leaves. Blades tapering to both ends, especially narrow toward the petiole which merges with the blade, leaf gland very small almost non-existent.
