Hi Bill and Happy New Year 2002 :) That's a new interview for a french paper magazine directly sold in kiosk & shops : "LES PUCES INFO" (http://www.acbm.com) (50.000 ex per month for France, Belgium, Swiss,... ;) The questions are often short but don't hesitate to argue and evolve your answers. Don't forget that is a big chance for you to explain your great project to a lot of french speaking people and not only to Amigans ! :) THE INTERVIEW: " Les Puces: Bill, first can you give us some words about your jobs before Amiga Inc. ? Bill McEwen: I have been working in the computer software industry for 17 years. In each job I have held they were leading edge technologies with cross platform potential. I have spent a great deal of time on Internet related products, especially with regards to communication and commerce.

Les Puces: In January 2000, you have bought all the Amiga Rights and Licences to Gateway, Why ? What were your real motivations with your new team ? Bill McEwen: To continue the dream that we had at Gateway. To change computing and the ideas of computing forever. We wanted to create a multi-platform, scalable, embeddable, multi-media operating system that would provide the foundation for the dream of delivering digital content to any digital device. This would be hardware agnostic. In other words a consumer would no longer have to worry about what player they have installed, or what OS they are running on. It would be about Video's, not Mpeg 2, 4, DVD, Real, Win Media, if would be Video. The Amiga technologies would take care of the rest. In other words any Digital Content including word processors, spreadsheets, games, video, music, photography, anything Digital. Could be made available to any digital device through this new generation of Amiga. Les Puces: Can you introduce Elate (made by Tao Group) and your new AmigaDE (Digital Environment) ? Why is it so 'revolutionary' ? Bill McEwen: We were introduced to the Tao Group in September 1999, before we had even secured the rights to the Amiga from Gateway, and we knew then that the vision and the product that they had developed was exactly the match that we had for the new Amiga. Never before have you been able to get the speed, scalability and the raw power in such a small footprint, and add to this the ability to have all of your content binary portable is amazing. Now an application (content) can be written one time, and it can run anywhere AmigaDE is running. We are not the only ones who believe and know this. If you look at their investors, Sony, Motorola, JVC, Sharp, and the companies who have committed to them, Hitachi, Fujitsu and their investors and you see that we as Amiga are indeed in very good company. Les Puces: Can you give us concrete examples of the AmigaDE capacities and of its applications in our everyday life ? Bill McEwen: You have begun using a certain communication program that you really like and enjoy. Now instead of having different versions or the chance that at your place of employment they have Windows machines, and at home you have Linux, and your handheld device is running Linux, but your partners device is running PocketPC. The AmigaDE communication package that you like will run without change on everyone of the products described. You are now only bound by the horsepower of your device. The application will run on every type of hardware that you are exposed to. Les Puces: How many AmigaDE applications do you own today ? which one ? Bill McEwen: Amiga is not about "owning " applications. We long for the day when thousands of great programs (content) are being created all over the world. A day when the small developer houses are able to compete once again with the larger companies all because the opportunities are once again there and available. We currently have slightly more than 3,000 developers with the AmigaSDK. From this we now have over 100 new applications, and have more than a thousand in the works.

Les Puces: Can you introduce us your AmigaDE SDK and your AmigaDE Player for Windows and Linux ? Bill McEwen: The AmigaDE Player is the content delivery mechanism for different hardware and software products. This is the common interface that users will come to know on the various devices. We are currently shipping AmigaDE Player for Windows, and Linux desktops and we are in beta for the PocketPC, Sharp (embedded Linux), Epoc, Symbian, CE, and some others. The products that were mentioned can be seen on our web site with some video clips of applications already running on these various devices.

Les Puces: For the moment, how many developers do you think are already working for new AmigaDE applications ? Bill McEwen: As mentioned above we have over 3,000 developers currently involved.

Les Puces: Why do you think that you will get success near the big other companies and their environment (Microsoft, Windows, Linux,...) ? Where BeOS has failed and Apple/Macintosh has tried for long years... Bill McEwen: First of all we have the Amiga community. These are the best developers and the best community to champion this next direction and the future of computing. Second we are not competing with these other platforms. They are irrelevant. Since we as AmigaDE enhance their offerings, and create a common interface that can deliver content to the operating systems mentioned above. Be had many other issues and problems. It is really unfair to Amiga to compare us to Be. They changed their business plan numerous times along the way, and if you were to read the plans that we created in 1998/1999 you would find that they are the same today, and we know that we are correct with our plans. Les Puces: Do you think that one day we will find only the AmigaDE on a PC and not always in host of Windows or Linux ? Bill McEwen: There will be new desktop systems out there with Amiga as the OS. This is an absolute, and we will see what happens to Windows and Linux as time goes on. Amiga has been with us since 1985, and will be here in 2085. Les Puces: In May 2001, Sharp demonstrated applications provided by Amiga for the AmigaDE system on their Zaurus hand-held computer at the 2001 Business Show in Tokyo. That's really your first product under AmigaDE with a great partner :) But when will we can buy this Zaurus with AmigaDE ? Bill McEwen: We expect to see the Sharp device in consumer hands in February/March 2002. This will be available on a global basis.

Les Puces: Do you think you will get great contracts for the AmigaDE with other partners next months ? Can you give us some names or types of products developed with them ? Bill McEwen: There will be many new announcements over the next several weeks, and months. We will have at least one more announcement in January with a huge partner that I think will surprise many :-). Les Puces: Near AmigaDE, you are working with Eyetech company on AmigaOne, the new Amiga desktop computer, and with Hyperion company on AmigaOS 4.0, the new AmigaOS PowerPC for the AmigaOne. Why these choices ? What success today for this project in a so difficult market ? Bill McEwen: We made a commitment to the Amiga community that the desktop OS would continue and there will be many improvements. We have a long list of plans and very excited partners in making this a success. I personally did not believe that there was enough of a market for another revision to the OS, but with the work of Eyetech. Hyperion and especially Fleecy I have agreed and we have executed the contracts to make it happen. I am very excited about the progress to date. Les Puces: So, can you confirm us that everybody will be able to buy the first competitive Amiga computer for 7 years in 2002 ? Bill McEwen: Yes. 2002 will be a better year for Amiga than all previous years. The plans are coming together rather nicely. A year later than I had planned, but we are still here and still moving strong. With the amazing support of the community we are definitely going to shake things up this year. Les Puces: Can you also confirm us that the AmigaOS 5.0 on AmigaOne will finally integrate the full AmigaDE ? Bill McEwen: I believe that it is slightly before OS 5.0 :-). That is the amazing thing with plans, they are always changing right up until the product is delivered.

Les Puces: Near AmigaOne, bPlan company is developing the Pegasos, a PowerPC computer for Linux and MorphOS (an alternative 'AmigaOS PPC'). This Pegasos already works on MorphOS and has been shown last November in Cologne at the Amiga 2001 Show. It will be certainly sold before the AmigaOne in Q1 2002. What do you think about this ? Bill McEwen: AS long as it does not is ANY way violate ANY Amiga IP then I wish them success. I think that competition is great, it will always keep Amiga looking for ways to better our systems and keep advancing our ideas. Contrary to some people opinions I think that it is great that there are

people out there who want to take risks. As a side note AmigaDE was shown on 6 different hardware platforms and 9 different operating systems in March of 2000. Les Puces: Don't you think that Pegasos sold under MorphOS near AmigaOne sold under AmigaOS PPC / AmigaDE will more divide the little Amiga Community ? Bill McEwen: Amiga is Amiga. Morph is Morph. These are two different products and they should be. We are continuing down the path with AmigaDE and the new AmigaOS. These products with our OEM partners will have over 10 million customers in 2002 alone. These are signed contracts that will be announced over the coming weeks. I believe that Amiga users will purchase the best products for what they are looking for in a product. And I know that we have an amazing solution that is able to transcend numerous hardware products and our partners are planning on building some amazing hardware devices based on the AmigaOS this year. There will be more information about this in the coming weeks. Les Puces: Do you think possible that one day the Pegasos will be able to become an official AmigaOne ? Bill McEwen: That decision is up to the Morph team. They have had the contracts for months. It is in their hands whether or not they wish to succeed in the future.

Les Puces: To conclude Bill, some words especially to the french Amigans and to all our other readers, and... a scoop please ! :) Bill McEwen: I can not thank everyone enough for all of their hardwork and continued support. It has been very difficult for everyone to stay focused, and we are running over a year late on where we wanted to be. The Amiga team is dedicated to creating, implementing, and shipping the most advanced solution for our digital world, and the Amiga community has shown and proven itself to understand these opportunities and adopt and proliferate the most exciting technology long before others. I can tell you that one of our new customers will be announcing before the end of January 2002 and that our European Amiga community will have the opportunity of purchasing and participating before any community.

Les Puces: Thank you very much Bill and good luck for your great project in 2002 ! Bill McEwen: Thank you for your time, and this great opportunity of sharing with you.
