want to help you keep our home rivers clean and healthy for your family, fish, and other cool wildlife! Family forests can get certified through the American Tree Farm System “Tree Farm” through a no-cost inspection process (*Christmas Tree Farms are not eligible*). Certified Family Forest landowners achieve an internationally recognized, 3rd party audited certification which provides recognition that they are sustainably providing wood to society while enhancing wildlife
habitat, and protecting clean water. Certified Family Forest landowners are affectionately called “Tree Famers.” Tree Farmers have celebrated a legacy of tree planting and responsible management of their family forests for over 75 years. Tree Farmers are proud to display their big green sign, the sign of good forestry! If you own 10 acres of forest or more, call Nick Sanchez, Conservation District Forester, at (517) 920-9258 to find out how to become a pioneer tree farmer, get a no-cost inspection, and work towards getting certified today!

FREE WELL WATER SCREENING FOR NITRATE/NITRITE Measuring ammonia, nitrites and nitrates can reveal a lot about the 'health' of water. This 60-second strip test helps ensure the safety of households who rely on private wells for drinking water. The screening is open to Kent County Residents who use a personal well for drinking water. Samples will be accepted and screened Saturday, May 12th, 2018 from 10AM to 2PM during the Spring Native Plant Sale at the District office. Bring a water sample in any clean container that is less than 48 hours old. Collect a sample from an untreated water source such as an outdoor faucet, and run the water 10-20 minutes prior to collection. Keep the sample in a cool and dark location until it is dropped off.
Visit www.kentconservation.org to access a Water Sample Information Sheet, and have it completed upon arrival.
