Classroom Blogs Click the link below to access the Grade 4 Classroom Blog Sites. Refer to our blogs for classroom happenings and updates weekly. We are still updating our blogs for the new school year! Mrs. Melanie Sylvester Mr. David Ross Mrs. Laura Heatwole Mark Edwards Grade 4 Super Unit: Independent Me begins this week! Read more information below.

UNIT INFORMATION: Independent Me Driving Question: How can we make positive choices independently? Enduring understanding: Positive choices lead to greater independence. Essential Questions: 1. What does it mean to be independent? 2. What are positive and negative choices? 3. How can I identify and evaluate external influences? 4. How do I make positive independent decisions?

Science/Social Studies: Next week we will dive into our new unit (Independent Me). Students will begin to think about what external influences are, and what are the choices we make everyday. Our field trip, unit launch with teacher guest speakers, and science inquiries about the human body, will get students excited and interested to learn about how the choices they make affect their health and well being.

Literacy: We will be setting up our literacy classroom routines. We will be discussing and introducing Independent Daily Reading (IDR), reader response notebooks, and starting a read aloud. Math: Unit 1 Below you will find the standards students will inquire into over the next few weeks. Next week, we will begin with introducing Number Talks and reading the book, How Much is a Million? Whole Numbers, Place Value and Rounding in Computation Students will: ● Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division. ● Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons. ● Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place. ● Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm. ● Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
