27th Annual Walk for Hope is Almost Here!
The favorite service project of many CUCC Youth and families! Sunday, October 11: WALK FOR HOPE
Walk to benefit quality care and research for those with mental illness. This walk takes place during worship and is the way many of us worship and share God's love on this special day every year. If you can't come to the walk, remember that there will be no Church School on Sunday, October 11! How do I register?

Forum - ONA Task Force Panel - Why is being in an ONA church important to me? Sunday, Sept. 27, 9:15am - Vaughan Fellowship Hall Panel Discussion - A panel of church members will be discussing why CUCC’s being an ONA church is important to them. We will have a variety of single, married, gay, straight, young and older people who will discuss their experiences on a personal level. Once on the website, select the blue box that says Sign Up, then select the blue box that says Join a Team. Community UCC is our team name. Each individual has to be entered separately. If you choose to, you can make donations at this point, but we will collect money from church members as well to sponsor walkers. What if I just want to contribute funds?

Adult Sunday School Class Sunday Mornings, 9:30am - 10:15am, Bradow Room Led by Ellen Beidler and Bill Lamb Adult Sunday School Class began Sunday, Sept. 13, listening to a CD series, An Undivided Life, by Parker Palmer. You do not need to buy the book. We listen to 30 minutes from the series and then have 15 to 20 minutes of discussion. If you missed the first session or will have upcoming conflicts, this is the kind of study that has self contained lessons. You can easily drop in as your schedule permits. We expect this series will take about 10 weeks to complete.
Forum Takes a New Shape in October We are experimenting with some new ideas for Forum over the next three months. The following will remain the same: Forum is a place to live our faith by exploring social justice issues. Forum will be led by members and occasionally outside speakers. The following will change: Forum will begin at 9:30 and end at 10:15. On the 1st Sunday of every month, we will have an Intergenerational Forum In October, Forum will focus on Hunger. Oct. 4: Children, youth & adults will experience together ways to alleviate hunger. All ages welcome, but childcare is available.
Mid-Week Youth Meetings Begin Youth will meet for fellowship, service projects, spiritual growth, and education on Tuesday evenings this fall. We will meet from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the fellowship hall or the youth room. We will move to Wednesdays in the spring to accommodate youth schedules. Adults and parents who are interested in joining in or providing assistance, please contact Śānti at
[email protected]. Also, parents who are interested are free to attend Life and Faith in Downtown Raleigh at Tyler’s Taproom on first Tuesdays, and Taizé Worship Service on third Tuesdays. Who knows what you might plan for second and fourth Tuesdays!

Jobs for Life: Help adults & young adults from unemployment to employment. Students are parents and graduates of children enrolled in Loaves & Fishes. We teach the skills they need to find and hold a job and to improve their lives. Each course has 16 two-hour classes. DATES: October 13 – December 10 (Thanksgiving week is off) DAYS AND TIMES: Tuesday and Thursday, 8:45am – 11:00am LOCATION: Loaves and Fishes site at Milner Church, 1950 New Bern Ave, Raleigh, NC During 8 weeks and 16 sessions, we will cover such topics as: Understanding my value; Identifying and overcoming roadblocks; Perseverance and positive attitude; Conflict resolution; Effective communications skills; Excelling on the job. We have instructors and food providers. We very much need volunteers in two areas: Mentors – You work one-on-one with students to encourage and support them and to help them stay on track.
