Energy Management • Every district facility has a state of the art energy management system. • Eleven schools have earned the EPA’s prestigious Energy Star Award. Energy Star buildings use an average of 35% less energy than similar buildings. • In 2010, Carmel Clay Schools implemented a 4 day work week during the summer, and to date have saved over $700,000 in utility expenses.

• In 1995, Carmel Clay Schools was one of the first school districts in Indiana to adopt an Energy Management Program focused on a behavior-based approach to energy conservation. As compared to the base year, Carmel Clay Schools saved $1.2 million in utility expenses in 2015. Carmel Clay Schools has saved over $19 million in utility expenses since 1995.

Health-care Savings • In 2010, Carmel Clay Schools began to establish a Culture of Wellness. Biometric screenings and health risk assessments were made available to employees and dependents. • In 2013, fitness classes and a pedometer program were implemented.

• In 2013, Carmel Clay Schools opened an Employee Wellness Center. Carmel Clay Schools has had no health insurance premium increase in the past 4 years. Carmel Clay Schools’ average premium increase for the 3 years prior to opening the Wellness Center was 5.6%. Assuming the 3 year average increase of 5.6% compared to no increase, Carmel Clay Schools has avoided over $10 million of premium increase in the past 4 years.
