Project Description The project began with the demolition of dilapidated and functionally obsolete buildings including the original administration building, old auto shop, classroom building 100, Grossmont Resource Center, special education office buildings and other ancillary structures to make way for the new two-story, 12,200-square-foot student support services building and two-story, 11,640-square-foot arts classroom building. The site was completely re-graded in preparation for the new buildings to comply with ADA and storm water requirements. The new student support services building features a dramatic exterior with covered space to serve as the main entry point and the left half of the future campus gateway for visitors and students. The school eagerly awaits development of the new Events Center to complete the other side of the gateway to be made possible with funds from Measure BB if passed by the voters in November. The new building consolidates student support activities into a single location for improved staff and student interaction. The arts classroom building includes new district standard spaces for ceramics, metals, 2-D art, photography and digital arts as well as a classroom and store for ASB and another for the Special Education program. Extensive site work included additional parking, new accessible pathways and a revamped bus drop-off area, new site lighting and security cameras for improved safety and a new ADA restroom building to support the student population during the day and stadium events after hours.

Proposition U Bond Program The new student support services and arts classroom buildings at Grossmont High School are a part of the Proposition U bond, passed in November 2008 by East County voters. The $417 million bond measure is budgeted at $601.7 million, which includes $184.7 million of expected State funding and interest earnings. The bond continues to support the program to complete the modernization of District schools, provide classrooms and equipment for Career Technical Education.
