GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOL CLOSINGS, LATE OPENINGS, AND EARLY DISMISSALS Perkiomen Valley School District January 23, 2018 I. ANNOUNCEMENTS School closings, late openings, and early dismissals will be announced via the District’s automated emergency contact system to all staff and district families. II. NOTIFICATION The District’s automated emergency contact system will be used to notify all staff. The phone number used by the automated emergency contact system is the staff member’s phone number on file in the district Human Resource eFinance system. Any necessary changes to phone numbers on file are to be completed through the Human Resources Department. Please pay particular attention to the wording of the announcement: 1)
An announcement of “ALL SCHOOLS” are closed or delayed applies to students, professional staff and instructional staff only. Administration and all 12-month employees report at their regularly scheduled time unless otherwise directed by the Superintendent.

An announcement of “ALL SCHOOLS AND OFFICES” are closed or delayed applies to all students and all staff.

III. PROCEDURES When schools are closed for one day, they will reopen the next day unless otherwise announced on the sources listed above. Efforts will be made to coordinate closings with other local districts; however, Perkiomen Valley School District will operate independently as local conditions dictate. 1. Late Openings: a. Kindergarten – When school opening is delayed, AM/PM Kindergarten will have a modified schedule: One hour, 45 minutes each. Elementary principals should communicate this important information to their ½ day kindergarten parents. AM - 10:30 - 12:30 PM - 1:30 - 3:15 b. Full day Kindergarten will follow the same schedule as Grades 1 through 5. c. North Montco Technical Career Center (NMTCC) – No morning tech school when school opening is delayed. d. All Staff – When schools are open one or more hours late, staff members should report no later than the equivalent time later than their normal reporting time. 2. Early Dismissals: When it is necessary to dismiss schools early, each principal will be notified and announcements will be made on the sources listed above in an effort to notify parents as quickly as possible. Administrators will be contacted by the Superintendent to announce dismissal times for students, professional staff, instructional support staff, food service, and 12-month employees. 3. Snow Day Reporting: Instructional Staff: Teachers, Paraprofessionals, 1:1 Aides Employees who work directly with the students should always follow the student schedules. When there is a delay, cancellation or early dismissal, a reduction of hours may result. All 10-month and student day staff will be rescheduled to work on the student make-up day. On unscheduled, early dismissals due to inclement weather or emergency, employees dismissed earlier than their respective normal dismissal time will be paid for the regularly scheduled hours for that day. Special Education 1:1 Aides who report to work and their assigned student is unexpectedly absent, the aide may be re-assigned for that day with pay (up to their regularly scheduled hours). 12-Month Employees: Employees that elect not to comply with the announcement are required to use personal or vacation time to account for the absence.
