Guitar Standards Mr. Donatelli A. Performing graduated, instructional guitar pieces. 1. Learn the requisite fretboard and picking/strumming skills to perform basic, and/or intermediate graduated pieces with left hand (bass clef) and right hands together. B. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines. 1. Compose a simple melody, harmony and accompaniments using specific guidelines. C. Reading and notating music. 1. Perform multiple pieces of music from standard written notation incorporating the following criteria: a. Simple and compound meter b. Key signatures up to 3 flats and 3 sharps. c. Multiple dynamics and score expression. d. major and minor D. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music, professional performances, guitar virtuosi, as well as several musical forms and stylistic genres. 1. Listen to multiple recordings of music from various classical, folk, jazz, country, rock, blues, metal, fusion and pop guitarists and innovators on the instrument. 2. Write a reflection using specific vocabulary and concepts. E. Evaluating music and music performances. 1. Make connections between two or more pieces of music or musical performances. 2. Make informed judgements on a piece of music or musical performance. F. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts. 1. Make a connection between a piece of music and another art form. 2. Make a connection between music and other disciplines. G. Creative Expression Students will create and/or perform to express ideas and feelings. 1.Create an audio recording to communicate an idea, feeling, or meaning using the creative process, reflection, and self-evaluation (problem-solving skills). 2. Create a portfolio of work that communicates new ideas, feelings, and moods using electronic media, techniques, and processes. 3.Use audio production knowledge and musical vocabulary to critique their own work. 4. Use skills and knowledge of audio production, whenever applicable, to solve problems or enhance meaning in other disciplines H. Technology 1. Students will learn the “Garage Band” application in order to facilitate composition and multi-track recording, mixing, arranging, digital editing and interfacing with video. 2. Students will learn to manipulate digital media in the forms of mp3 and .wav files for
purposes of music production and to communicate homework assignments to the instructor.
