Hebrews—Part 4
February 8/9, 2014 Jesus is better! Hebrews 2:5-9
FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) 2:5 God never intended to give angels rule over the world. Rather, angels were created to serve God and to assist those who are heirs of salvation (1:14). 2) 2:5 Man was created to rule the earth. In God’s final plan, we will one day be the rulers He designed us to be. 3) 2:6 Some take ‘son of man’ as a reference to Christ. In this case, it corresponds to mankind. 4) 2:6 God is actively concerned for us. 5) 2:7 The present chain of command is temporary. 6) Major differences between Man & Angels: • Man is confined to the earth. Angels are not confined to the realm of Heaven. They can and do travel to earth at will. • Man is confined to space and time. Angels dwell in eternity; they step into the fabric of time. • Man’s direct communication/contact with God was lost at the fall. Angels have continual access to the throne of God. • Man is subject to death. Angels cannot die. • Man is limited in capacity physically and intellectually. Angels have superior intelligence (they see things we cannot) and have supernatural power and strength. 7) 2:7God originally made man pure and innocent. He gave him honor and glory. Somedayour King will restore them to us. 8) 2:8Because all fell in Adam, we do not now see the earth subject to us. 9) 2:9Jesus died and was resurrected to restore man…not just to save and to deliver us, but restore us to the place of dominion that was lost because of sin. 10) 2:9 While we do not yet see the future fulfilled in mankind at large, we do see it fulfilled in Jesus.
11) Those who recognize Jesus Christ as God’s only provision for salvation and trust in Him for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of salvation will reign with Him when He returns to establish His Kingdom on earth.
