March 22/23, 2014 Jesus is better! Hebrews 4:12-13
FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) 4:12“The word of God” is anything that God utters, both in the Old Testament (prophets)and in the New Testament (Jesus). 2) 4:12 The Scriptures are not some dead letter that soon vanishes. 3) 4:12 Because the Word is alive and active, it can pierce into the innermost part of the heart to see if belief is real.
9) It is the Word that must be believed. It is the Word that must be obeyed. It is the Word of God that will also judge (1 Corinthians 10:5-13). 10) When a person comes under the all-seeing capacity of God’s Word, we are unavoidably face-to-face with the perfect truth about God. And, at the same time we come face to face with the truth of who we are in the eyes of God.
4) 4:12 The “soul” is the seat of the emotions (1 Samuel 18:1, Judges 10:16, Genesis 42:21). It is that part of our nature which stirs into activity the “lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1 John 2:16). Through the “spirit” we are capable of perceiving all around us the evidences of the Creator (Romans 1:20). 5) 4:12 The Word of God penetrates to the deepest places in our lives and assesses what is there. 6) 4:12As there is nothing that so honors God as faith, so there is nothing that so dishonors him as unbelief. Has the Word of God “pierced” you? Has it exposed the workings of your heart? Has it penetrated, as no word from man ever has, into your innermost being? 7) 4:13Nothing in all creation is invisible to God. 8) 4:13When we come under the all-seeing capacity of God’s Word, we are unavoidably face-to-face with the perfect truth about God and, at the same time, we come face to face with the truth of who we are in the eyes of God.
