HELENA BASKETBALL CAMP SUMMER 2017 COACH CHRIS LAATSCH In 2014, Chris Laatsch became Helena High School’s Head Varsity Boys Basketball coach and has been grateful for the rare privilege to build a program from its beginnings. Coach Laatsch’s passion is to help the students take the lessons that they learn through basketball and use them to develop the character needed to be great people, spouses and parents one day! At the conclusion of the Huskies inaugural season, the team finished with the record of 17-13, making a playoff appearance. This is the first time in state history that a basketball team from a first year school would qualify for the state playoffs. The 2015-2016 season ended with a 20-10 record with the team making the playoffs, again. With a 25-8 record completing the 2016-2017 season, the Huskies made the state playoffs for the third year in a row. Coach Laatsch has been coaching for 23 years. He has averaged eighteen wins a season as a head coach, made three Final Four appearances including one State Runner-Up and one State Championship.
COACH ALAN SKINNER Coach Skinner is entering into his 3rd season as Head Girls Basketball coach at Helena High School. In his first season, the basketball program increased their win total from 7 in 2014-2015 to 18 in 20152016. The Lady Huskies finished runnerup in their area and made a trip to the AHSAA playoffs for the first time in program history. In year 2, the Huskies finished their season undefeated in their area and won the Area Championship. The girls defeated Paul Bryant High School to become the first basketball team in school history to earn the right to play in an AHSAA regional tournament. Coach Skinner has a passion for the game, and he is very energetic. His enthusiasm is contagious which ignites players to develop a desire to do their best! Coach Skinner is finishing his 6th season coaching. In those 6 years, he has been a part of 4 area championships, 1 Regional Championship, 2 Regional Runner-ups, and 1 State Championship.
