Herstine’s Hints—Feb 22-26, 2016 Reading 



Students completed county benchmarks last week. This data will help me prepare additional reading lessons for more practice in Standards of need. We are kicking of RI.5.5 Text Structure this week.

Writing— Students finished Theme papers for Where The Red Fern Grows and Summer of the Monkeys  They used a planning sheet to help keep their thoughts and text evidence organized, a content & conventions rubric for expectations, and Google Docs for the typing of their rough drafts and their polished pieces.  The finished pieces will hopefully be in Interim Report envelopes for most students. Absences for sickness may be holding up just a couple of students.

Science: We are continuing forces and motion science unit: Graphing motion and time, determining motion, forces that change motion, factors that affect motion, Newton’s Laws of Physics, unbalanced forces, & motion and design factors.  We are completing labs in class that will be part of the science grades. Students are expected to write complete sentences with detailed information for all parts of the labs.  Students will work on a partner assessment that will be graded through Schoolnet.
