Dr. Peter Schyga, free lance historian from Hannover and First Chairman of the Verein Spurensuche Harzregion (Trace-Seeking Society, Harz Region), examines the programmatic, ideological and sociological nearness of the “National Opposition” of 1931 with the right-wing radicalism of the present.

March 14, 2011, 7:00 p.m. Gewerkschaftshaus Hannover, Otto-Brenner-Straße 1 Dr. HANS-DIETER SCHMID, Hanover “Regarding the Career of Friedrich Jeckeln: ‘Chef des Saalschutzes’ in Bad Harzburg, high SS- and Police Officer, General of the ‘Waffen-SS’ and War Criminal” Dr. Hans-Dieter Schmid, longstanding lecturer in the Historic Seminar at Leibniz University, Hannover and proven expert on NS history, sketches the personal and professional political path of this SS man from the small circle of “SSObergruppenführer” (=squad leaders) closely associated with Himmler.

DR.KURT NEUMANN, Bad Harzburg “From the Diary of a Bad Harzburger Witness of the Time” Kurt Neumann, longstanding staff member of the international congress facility Haus Sonnenberg im Harz, analysed the extensive written notations, dating from 1924 through 1948, of the French woman, Marguerite Boer, who then lived in Bad Harzburg. He will present and comment upon her clear observations of daily life and political events.
Thurs. March 24, 2011, 7:00 p.m. Volkshochschule Hannover, Theodor-Lessing-Platz 1 DR. JAN LOHL, Hanover “Hitler’s Grandchildren? Examining the Relationship between National Socialistic Emotional Inheritances and Right-Wing Extremism.” The lecture by Dr. Jan Lohl, academic staff member of the Institute for Sociology at the University Hannover, discusses the influence of National Socialism over the generations in the families of “NS-Volksgenossen” (National Socialistic party sympathisers) and points out that they are still today in effect. This is particularly apparent in the development and acceptance of nationalistic and anti-Semitic patterns of orientation which are widespread in the Federal Republic today.

…the persecution and resistance during National Socialism? A question many initiatives in Hanover do not pose. A number of projects present their concrete work with schools, unions, municipal facilities, church, sport and educational facilities. We enter into dialogue with interested parties, active persons and educators about the “future of remembering”.

March 31, 6:00 p.m. Gewerkschaftshaus Hannover, Otto-Brenner-Str. 1 ANDREA RÖPKE “Girls’ Stuff! – Women in the Neo-Nazi Movement” The new book by Andrea Röpke and Andreas Speit: a fascinating report and factfilled analyse of the increasingly self confident behaviour of women in the until-now male dominated neo-Nazi movement. Andrea Röpke, free lance journalist and political scientist, is an expert on the rightwing radical scene. Her address covers the newest developments in the “battle for the minds” on the streets and in public forums.
