EJM – 089 6. a) Explain the following :

10

i) Value of travel time savings ii) Road pricing. b) Explain road inventorying and mention the road features covered by inventorying.

10

7. a) Explain the methodology for monetary evaluation of passenger travel time.

10

b) A single lane road 40 km long is to be widened to two lanes at a cost of Rs. 75 Lakhs per km including all improvements. The cost of operation of vehicles on the single lane road is Rs. 4.00 per vehicle km whereas it is Rs. 3.00 per vehicle km on the improved facility. The average traffic may be assumed as 5000 vehicles per day over a design period of 15 years. The interest rate is 10% per anum. The cost of maintenance is Rs. 25,000 per km on the existing road and Rs. 20,000 per km on the improved road. Is the investment in the improvement scheme worth while ? 10 8. Explain the following. i) Toll roads ii) Expressways iii) Consumer surplus iv) Sufficiency ratings for highways.
