BECOME A PADI INSTRUCTOR

Thank you for thinking of us when it comes to taking this important step in your diving career! Blue Marlin Dive, Indonesia’s renowned dive company now operating for over 25 years, is proud to add the rating of 5* PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) to its list of offerings. Becoming a PADI instructor is not only about passing the instructor examination and achieving the certification. For this reason, our goal is to guide you through the IDC developing abilities, dive skills, knowledge and giving you teaching confidence that will accompany you from the very first student you will teach. At Blue Marlin, we know how important this is for your future students and your career as a PADI Instructor. Our monthly IDC’s take place at Blue Marlin Gili Air and Blue Marlin Komodo during a 15-day program (12-day IDC & EFRI) plus an additional - optional, but highly recommended - free of charge preparation program before every IDC start. We guarantee a 100% pass rate and a memorable IDC inclusive of valuable extras such as PADI Basic Freediving Course and the Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor Course.

ARISTOTLE:

THOSE WHO KNOW, DO. THOSE THAT UNDERSTAND, TEACH.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

At Blue Marlin Dive, we believe that the most effective learning happens in a relaxed and comfortable classroom environment. For this reason, our 15-day program lends enough time to ensure every candidate has the training not just to pass the Instructor Examination, but to confidently begin a career as an Open Water Scuba Instructor. Likewise, our facilities, classrooms, boats and training pools allow courses to run smoothly, efficiently and in the most enjoyable way for the candidates. In your previous courses, you have achieved all the performance requirements to become a PADI Divemaster - or an equal qualification however, not every candidate will have the same experience nor vivid memory of what they have learned. For this reason, our multilingual PADI Course Director will refresh your knowledge as necessary to fine-tune your comprehension and to make sure each and every candidate is adequately prepared. Our pricing has been established to ensure potential candidates are able to access quality training at competitive prices. We believe so strongly in our ability to properly prepare candidates that each Instructor Examination is pass guaranteed. We stand behind this by offering subsequent IDC’s, if needed, free of charge.

WHY CHOOSE BLUE MARLIN DIVE?

TRAVEL ASSISTANCE Let us assist you with any questions regarding your visa or travel to Indonesia by providing you with all the information needed prior to your arrival, allowing you to focus on what’s important.

MODERN FACILITIES Our modern IDC facilities include air-conditioned classrooms with up-to-date materials, visual aids, DVD player and interactive teaching aids. Our pools are created expressly to teach PADI dive courses. (Blue Marlin Komodo is the only diving centre in Labuan Bajo with a dedicated diver training pool – that means relaxed, calm and comfortable confined water training without having to take a boat trip).

MSDT PREPARATION PROGRAM Both Blue Marlin on Gili Air and Blue Marlin in Komodo are busy dive centres running a range of PADI courses every week. Take advantage of this and once finished with your IDC, gain experience through team teaching and assisting our experienced instructors. Not only will it further prepare you to run your own courses, but it will give you a glimpse into multiple perspectives and styles of teaching. MSDT SPECIALITIES After the IDC program, make yourself more employable by learning how to teach five different specialities. We offer the option of taking this course aboard a liveaboard in Komodo National Park.

LEARN FOR YOURSELF WHY OVER 27 YEARS OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE MATTERS

POST IDC ASSISTANCE After your IDC, feel free to spend a couple of weeks diving with a 20% discount on all diving at Blue Marlin Gili Air & Komodo. Once you are ready to jump start your career, let our team help you make the perfect CV/resume and receive job assistance via our widespread network, across Indonesia and within the liveaboard community.

UNRIVALLED EXPERIENCE Blue Marlin Dive has been operating in Indonesia for more than 25 years. With multiple teaching awards, find out why we are routinely recognised by PADI for our diver education.

A COURSE DIRECTOR YOU CAN TRUST Course Director Matt Fieschi has many years of diving and teaching experience matured from the cold water of the Mediterranean Sea to the bountiful currents of the Maldives atolls. He has been diving and teaching in the Maldives, the Gulf of Thailand, Italy, the Caribbean Sea and Indonesia. Let him integrate his experiences into the varied topics of the IDC by explaining theory with real world situations.

CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE Whether you opt to do your IDC on the laid back, tropical island of Gili Air or prefer a more adrenaline based diving adventure out of Komodo, earn your Open Water Scuba Instructor certification while diving “The Coral Triangle”. This unique area is known for spectacular biodiversity due to the “Indonesian Throughflow”, an ocean current phenomenon which brings life and food to the surrounding environment. FREEDIVING In addition to the standard IDC program, the PADI Basic Freediving Course is included. Not only will this broaden your knowledge and skills, but you’ll also become more employable.

COURSE DIRECTOR MATT FIESCHI

MULTIPLE LANGUAGES As English is the most commonly used language in the diving industry, we conduct our IDC’s in English to help familiarise candidates with the appropriate scuba terminology. However, our course director speaks 6 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. All candidates who are concerned about following a course in English can rely on a full translation if needed.

WHAT’S GILI AIR LIKE?

THE INHABITANTS Islanders are friendly and approachable and will soon get to know you by name. Most are quick to help you learn the national language and will even throw in some words from their local dialect. Many islanders are devout, so please respect local customs by covering up. Bikinis are fine on the beach-front road, but shorts and t-shirts are more respectful when walking past people’s homes. THE ISLAND Gili Air is the perfect mix of bustling Gili Trawangan and relaxed Gili Meno. Our island caters to an alternative crowd interested in travelling off the beaten track. Bestowed with natural beauty and an effortlessly slow pace of life, Gili Air is a place to sit back, breathe and take it all in without foregoing many modern conveniences. Visitors will also gain insight into local culture as Gili Air boasts the largest local population. THE WEATHER Similiar to the rest of the tropical world, the Gilis have a wet season and a dry season. With Mt. Rinjani to the immediate east on neighbouring Lombok and Mt. Agung to the west on Bali, the Gilis are somewhat sheltered and enjoy a slightly drier climate when compared to the surrounding areas. The wet season is from December to April and the cooler, dry season is from May to November.

LODGING OPTIONS ACCOMMODATION If you’re looking for a place to stay, there are dozens of options within cycling distance of the dive shop. If you’re looking for on-site convenience, Blue Marlin offers beachside bungalows for IDR 5.985.000/week inclusive of breakfast. There are also numerous homestays where you can negotiate a weekly or monthly rate. Most places will offer a choice of fan-only or aircon rooms from 2.5 - 8 million per month. RESTAURANT OPTIONS Development moves slowly on our side of the island, so expect plenty of local warungs serving simple food. Blue Marlin’s beachside restaurant serves a combination of Western and Indonesian cuisine. Try our new menu packed with healthy options such as superbowls and sandwiches. For those willing to venture a little further, plenty of delicious cuisines await on the other side of the island. DAYS OFF Before or after your course, you may want to spend some time discovering the island. A few ideas: Enrol in yoga classes on the beach, try your hand at paddleboarding, visit Gili Trawangan or Gili Meno for the day, relax on the beach, take A local Indonesian cooking classes or try and catch some surf. You can also venture over to nearby Lombok and challenge yourself with a 5-day trek up Mt. Rinjani.

WHAT’S LABUAN BAJO LIKE?

THE INHABITANTS Labuan Bajo is located on the island of Flores, colonised and named by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Because of this Portuguese influence, Flores is predominantly Roman Catholic (90%). However, in the port town of Labuan Bajo, the ratio is about 50% Roman Catholic and 50% Muslim, with both religions living peacefully side by side. The local people are famously friendly and willing to help out. THE TOWN Labuan Bajo is famous as the launching point for trips to Komodo National Park, home of the endemic Komodo dragons. While still referred to as a ‘frontier town’ by many expats, Labuan Bajo has experienced a boom in the past few years. This has only strengthened the community bond in the town and don’t be surprised if at the end of your time here everyone knows your name. It’s a small town with a lot of heart. THE WEATHER Similar to the rest of the tropical world, Labuan Bajo has a wet season and a dry season. However, in the wet season, we generally aren’t subjected to much more than afternoon showers. The wet season is from December to March and the cooler, dry season is from April to November. However, as with anywhere in the world, the seasons have been quite unpredictable and have not been as clearly set as in the past.

SNACCOMMODATION OITPO GNIGDOL

Labuan Bajo offers multiple standards of accommodation: from single rooms with fans and squat toilets to rooms with air-con and hot water. Blue Marlin offers deluxe rooms for IDR 5.250.000/week and a dorm room for IDR 840.000/week. You can also find a place of your own with other divers for the best deal on your own space. Most places can’t be booked beforehand, but we are happy to assist once you arrive. RESTAURANT OPTIONS You may find that you end up spending a good deal of time at Blue Marlin’s restaurant, featuring Mexican and Western cuisine as well as the best sunset views in town. Elsewhere, you’ll find a wide array of dining options. Popular restaurants feature Italian, Greek, Japanese, Tex-Mex, local Indonesian and seafood. There is also great local food, fresh seafood and a bustling night market for those on a budget. DAYS OFF Before or after your course, you may want to spend some time to discover nearby areas. A few ideas: Explore Flores by renting a motorbike, visit the spiderweb rice fields at Cancar, stop by the Hobbit Caves, discover the waterfalls (jump into the rushing water at Cunca Wulang or swim in the pool at Cunca Rami) or relax by getting a massage at Komodo Spa, Wae Molas, Massage Flores or Yayasan ayo Mandiri.
