Section III of the DSM-5 contains assessment tools to assist you in making accurate diagnoses.  DSM-5 contains both ICD-9-CM codes for immediate use and ICD-10-CM codes in parentheses. The inclusion of ICD-10CM codes facilitates a cross-walk to the new coding system that will be implemented on October 1, 2014 for all U.S. health care providers and systems, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics (CDC-NCHS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The DVOMB is invested in promoting the availability of high quality treatment services across Colorado. The DVOMB believes it is responsible for providing various types of support to DVOMB Approved Providers in their efforts to provide quality services. DVOMB Approved Providers offer valuable treatment and can measurably assist in the prevention of further acts of domestic violence.

www.csm.gov (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services)  Check out their FAQ’s page for billing and coding questions.  CSM allows for the immediate use of the DSM-5.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE DSM-5 Domestic Violence Offender Management Board (DVOMB) Information Series Do you know that the DSM-5 eliminates some diagnoses, creates new diagnoses and re-organizes how certain diagnoses are conceptualized? This brochure is designed to encourage DV Providers to learn about the transition from the DSM-IV-R to the DSM-5.

DID YOU KNOW? The latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) was released May 2013. The date requiring you to stop using the DSM IV-R will be set by the American Psychiatric Association. So be ready! For example, sources at the Veterans’ Administration say they plan to be fully prepared to use the DSM-5 by October 2013. Did you know... 

Once the DSM-5’s official start date is announced, most insurances will require mental health professionals to revise their clients’ diagnosis as needed to reflect the DSM-5 numbering system and current diagnostic language. Some screening instruments will no longer be valid if the scoring outcomes use outdated diagnostic language and measures. You may need to revise your forms - both hard copy and electronic. Consider taking a course to learn how to use the DSM-5. The DSM-5 is already available in hard back, paperback and electronically. There is also a mobile application. The website printed on the other side of this pamphlet contain valuable and up-to-date information. Check with your payment sources, e.g., Victim’s Compensation, private insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid to learn their DSM-5 requirements.
