Intermountain Region News Release Lisa Eckert Named Superintendent of Bryce Canyon National Park DENVER - Lisa E. Eckert, a 33-year veteran of the National Park Service (NPS), has been named superintendent at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah, according to Intermountain Regional Director Sue Masica. Eckert will assume her new duties in mid-March, 2015. “Lisa has had a long career with NPS and has worked in cultural and natural units throughout the National Park Service, as well as in the NPS training facility,” said Masica. “Lisa is a focused leader

with a strong background in training, education, outreach and recruiting that make her very well suited to manage Bryce Canyon National Park.” Eckert, superintendent of Colorado National Monument in the Grand Junction area, has worked in 12 national parks and has volunteered in two Australian parks. Before her present assignment, she was superintendent of the Park Service’s Horace M. Albright Training Center on the South Rim at Grand Canyon National Park. She also served as superintendent of the Jamaica Bay unit of Gateway National Recreation Area in New York, Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site in North Dakota and Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming, and as acting superintendent at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in Arizona. — MORE —

Eckert began her NPS career in 1979 at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Other assignments include Shenandoah National Park and George Washington Memorial Parkway in Virginia, and Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, where she was chief of interpretation. She also served on the Department of Interior’s International Technical Assistance Program, teaching interpretive skills to Croatian war refugees. “I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I've spent at Colorado National Monument,” said Eckert. “Working with the staff, visitors and community partners has been very rewarding and allowed me to grow as a leader. I'm thrilled for the opportunity to bring my experience and passion for the NPS to Bryce Canyon. I very much look forward to this new challenge.” Eckert is a native of Madison, WI. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Biological Aspects of Conservation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed a graduate level Leadership Certificate in Public Lands & Cultural Heritage as a part of a Washington D.C.
