Introduction Tropical Fisheries with International Linkage (TFIL) Course has launched itself in 2015 at the Master Program in Aquatic Science (ASP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FoFMS), Sam Ratulangi University (UNSRAT). This Course aims to produce human resources who have attained knowledge and techniques in the theories and applications relevant to the tropical and sub-tropical fishery industries and developed the capability to play an active part on global communities on the basis of the ‘Postgraduate (Master) Program on Tropical Fisheries with International Linkage’. The said Program is the international postgraduate education organization established and run under a unified rule with linkage of the member schools in various countries in Asia; namely Faculty of Fisheries, Kagoshima University (Japan); School of Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences, University Malaysia Terengganu (Malaysia); College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas (Philippines); Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University (Thailand); and Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Sam Ratulangi University (Indonesia). Students registered in the Program at his/her home university can freely take subjects offered under the Program at the member universities, receive education with no additional cost and obtain credits. Students who satisfy the requirements set by the Program will receive a certificate of completion of the Program. This Course is one of the constituents of the above international linkage program, where students registered in the Course can attend lectures, practical etc. and be supervised on researches for his/her master degree thesis at a member school overseas, while belonging to ASP, FoFMS, UNSRAT.
Facilities Independent research activities can be done in laboratories in the main campus or at the Marine Field Station in Likupang. Library and free internet access are also available in the main campus. Location The main campus of Sam Ratulangi University is situated close to Manado Bay (around 650m) in the City of Manado, in the northern part of Sulawesi Island. All the member schools shall educate the Program student commonly and develop globalized human resources in fisheries. Degree The graduates will be given Indonesian master degree “Magister Sains” (M.Si) in Aquatic Science. Eligibility A candidate must hold an undergraduate diploma (Indonesian Sarjana or equivalent) in fisheries, marine sciences, and natural sciences with an average GPA of >3.0; has an English proficiency exam result of TOEFL (≥450) and Academic Potential Test result from OTOBappenas (≥400). Enrollment & Commencement Application for the program is available from February to June and commencement time is in July. Only up to 5 students will be selected each year. Selection of the candidates will be done just after the prospective student is accepted as a student through regular examination for national students. There will be a set of requirement to be met for the selection (will be defined later).
