INVITATION Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on Fecal Sludge Management & Developing Implementation Framework for Septage Management in Small Towns in Tamilnadu Project 'Tuymai' - 'தூய்மை’ - is conceptualized to ensure safe and sustainable fecal sludge management (FSM) service delivery in Namakkal Municipality and Erumaipatti Town Panchayat in Namakkal District of Tamil Nadu. The project is based on participatory planning approaches to develop a model implementation framework for the operative guidelines of septage management in small towns in Tamilnadu. This project is being funded by ARGHYAM Foundation and being implemented by LEAF Society, Namakkal in partnership with Athena Infonomics and Transerve Technologies. A Stakeholder Consultation Meeting is proposed for 13thMarch 2015 to launch Project 'Tuymai' ' தூய்மை’ at Conference Hall , NALA HOTELS, 6/153, Trichy Main Road, Namakkal, Tamil Nadu 637001, It is organized by LEAF Society and its partners. Launch of Project 'Tuymai' - 'தூய்மை’ Ensuring Safe and Sustainable Fecal Sludge Management in Small Towns Background Arghyam has awarded a grant to Leadership through Education and Action Foundation (LEAF) Society to implement project 'Tuymai' - 'தூய்மை’- in partnership with Athena Infonomics, Chennai and Transerve Technologies, Goa. Project ‘Tuymai’ - 'தூய்மை’- is conceptualized to ensure safe and sustainable fecal sludge management service delivery in Namakkal Municipality and Erumaipatti Town Panchayat in Namakkal District of Tamil Nadu. The project further aims to create better impacts on environment, public health and economy in the project area through participatory planning approaches. The two (2) years long project is designed to achieve a Geographic Information System (GIS) based and Management Information System (MIS) based data platform that will inform efficient FSM service delivery for the project and other such towns in Tamil Nadu. In addition, a model implementation framework for the operative guidelines for septage management in small towns will be demonstrated. The key findings from the project will be disseminated though larger advocacy platform on septic tanks governance, safe and sustainable FSM practices and protection of water resources and sources in the ULBs.
Workshop A Stakeholder Consultation Meeting is proposed to provide the much needed impetus to develop the model implementation framework for a safe and sustainable faecal sludge management service delivery. Workshop – Objectives: Create a shared understanding of the project, its long-term vision, approach and strategy; Broaden and strengthen the existing city partnerships for more effective implementation of the project; Understand the existing challenges to implement and scale up initiatives designed to ensure safe fecal sludge management Determine the capacity gap and capacity building needs required for mainstreaming the septage and the monitoring of the existing septic tanks in the study location. Workshop – Outcomes: City Partnership Model – defined stakeholder roles and responsibility matrix. List of ‘critical roles – formal and informal’ and their training requirement to enable sustainable FSM service delivery. Priority areas from stakeholders - to improve the sanitation system
