Ministry Snippets from Portugal—Seeking to Impact People for Christ As we look over our last few months here in Portugal, we are more and more cognizant of how beautifully God orchestrates our lives to suit His purposes. It has been amazing to see His sovereignty in how He weaves things together for His glory and our good. We have been actively praying to build relationships with those around us. We would like to "introduce" you to a few people with whom we are interacting; we are praying for the time we can share Christ on a more personal level with each of the individuals below. We covet your prayers for them, and for us. As always, we THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for your continued prayers on our behalf. May God continue to bless you richly for them.
D. - a 32-year-old unemployed chemical engineer D. knocked on our door a few days before she moved into our building. After a short conversation, it became clear that she was looking for the building manager, who lives in 12D - we live in 2D. She apologized for her error, we laughed, and I answered her questions. Over the next few weeks, Susan would just "happen" to see D. outside. We met her mom and her in-laws on Easter as they were leaving our apartment building. Two days later, D. knocked on our door, in her pajamas, crying. She said, "I have been in the hospital, I was 3 months pregnant but I lost the baby, and I've locked myself out of my apartment." Over the next 4 hours, Susan chatted with D. as they waited for the locksmith to arrive. During this conversation, D. said, "There is a reason I heard 2D instead of 12D. God doesn't make mistakes, He knew I would need you. You are my guardian angel." There have been other conversations about faith, life, culture and family. She is not a believer. Please pray with us that God will let Susan have a continuing impact in D.'s life, and for wisdom for Susan in this relationship.
L. - a 73-year-old woman with "interes"ng" views about Christ L. cleans the elevators and halls in our apartment building. Susan has been chatting with her over the months as their paths cross. This week, L. gave Susan a 30-minute speech about her "religious" views. L. is very faithful to the Catholic church but has a few interesting twists in her faith. She believes that Jesus "abandoned" us because He died on the cross, and that, as women, we are made in the image of Mary. There was little that Susan could interject because L. did not want to listen. Please pray for opportunities to interact with L. and that God will open her heart to the real truths of His Word.
D. - a 30-something-year-old woman from Romania Occasionally in life, we meet people we "click" with. D. is such a person for Susan. Recently, D. told Susan she would be open to meeting for coffee. Please pray for opportunities to share Christ with this woman, and for clarity in communication, as both D. and Susan will be speaking in their second language.
S. - a 78-year-old woman with a spicy personality S. attends our Ladies' Bible study in Venda do Pinheiro. On her 9irst visit to our Study, she interrupted my colleague and said, "Did you know God was married?" S. wanted to talk more than she wanted to listen. Since that time, she has become our most faithful lady in our study, and is listening and learning. S. was greatly impacted by one of our recent STP couples, for which we are very grateful! Please pray with us that God will continue to grow S. in her faith and that we will all see the change that only God can make in her heart.
G. - a 10-year-old boy who a.ends our church G. began attending church services a few weeks ago with a member of our congregation. He is now motivated enough to come that he often rides his bike from home alone. G. comes from a unchurched family but clearly hears God's Word spoken every Sunday. Please pray for his salvation.
R. - a 60-something-year-old woman who knows everybody in town When our colleague, Miriam, began the process of starting a Ladies' Bible Study in Venda do Pinheiro, R. was one of the 9irst ladies that was invited. R. literally knows everyone in town and was the best advertisement for the study as she invited everyone she knew. R., like S. above, was greatly impacted for Christ through the ministry of one of our STP couples. Unfortunately, R. no longer attends our study as she is caring for another elderly woman. Please pray that God will grow R. in her faith and she will be able to return to our study soon.
Igreja Bap1sta da Arruda dos Vinhos As a church, we have been praying fervently for revival in our town of Arruda dos Vinhos. This past Sunday, a family of 5 visited our church. This is very exciting as it is very rare for anyone to visit our church services here without being invited by someone. We also have a woman, a believer, who is showing interest in becoming a member of our church, also very exciting! Please join us in prayer as we ask God to do a mighty work in Arruda dos Vinhos. He is the One who will open the hearts of the people.
