The Alameda County Public Health Department is seeking a new Program Specialist! Join a dynamic team working for health and social justice! We are seeking enthusiastic candidates with a passion for creating and communicating about community change! The Alameda County Building Blocks for Health Equity unit (BB4HE) Program Specialist will design, create, and implement communication materials for the unit and spearhead project planning activities for the Building Blocks Collaborative. The Building Blocks for Health Equity unit is nationally recognized for putting theory into practice. The unit transforms the way we define and promote health in Alameda County. We bring together people with the ideas, connections, and skills to create conditions where all children have a fair chance at a healthy and fulfilling life – no matter where they live, how much money their families have, or their race – by addressing the root causes of health and health inequities. The unit houses three projects: The Building Blocks Collaborative, Best Babies Zone, and Health Equity and Resource Advocates. The Building Blocks Collaborative is a multi-disciplinary group founded in 2009 that challenges community groups, city and county government and elected leaders to embrace a broader understanding of the causes of poor health – and to work together to solve them. The Program Specialist’s duties include: creatively communicating about the unit through the website and electronic newsletter; leading and amplifying the unit’s social media presence; spearheading the bimonthly Building Blocks Collaborative meeting; planning and facilitating the Building Blocks Collaborative’s dynamic steering committee; creating and using evaluation tools to measure impact; maintaining communication with unit’s friends through various communication channels; supporting outreach activities with cogent communication materials; composing inspirational case studies to be used for fundraising purposes; creating compelling media projects; writing and aiding staff in writing abstracts for national conferences; leading internal trainings on communication skills and other related topics.
