March 2016 Dear Parent/Guardian, As parent/guardians, you are your child’s first teacher. We value the collaboration between school and home and are honored to work with you and your children as they transition to Kindergarten. The Westbrook School Department will gather lots of information as we learn about your child and prepare to teach him/her. Many children attend pre-school and nursery school programs before coming to Kindergarten. Teachers and caregivers have rich information to share with us in supporting our students. If your child attends a community based early childhood center, we would like to ask your permission for the staff that works with your child to also provide their input of their impressions of your child’s strengths and possible areas for attention. Child care providers are keenly aware of the developmental milestones and skills children develop early on and we recognize the importance of schools coordinating with early child care providers as children transition into kindergarten. With your permission, the school department will reach out to them and ask that they complete the Kindergarten Transition Checklist and return to the school. This information will be confidential between the child-care provider and school department. Thank you in advance for supporting this coordination across parents, child care providers and schools as your child gets ready for the exciting first year of school.
