School and Community Korea International School (KIS) is a private, non-profit, nonsectarian school offering an American college preparatory curriculum. KIS was established in 2000 and is located in a modern, state-of-the-art facility in the rapidly growing southern Seoul suburb of Pangyo. Enrollment is selective and has grown each year. • Pangyo campus total enrollment 1200 (PK-12) • High School enrollment 540 • Graduating seniors 132 The majority of KIS students are fluent in both English and another language. English is the language of instruction.

Mission Statement The mission of KIS is to inspire students with a passion for learning and to cultivate the competence, self-assurance, initiative, and creativity necessary for success in the global community.

Co-Curricular Activities and Athletics Strong participation is a hallmark of KIS students. Students may choose from more than 90 student led clubs including: Habitat for Humanity, Model United Nations, National Honor Society, Actions of Compassion,Tri- M Music Honor Society and the Global Issues Network. Student athletes participate in the following competitive varsity sports: volleyball, cross country, tennis, soccer, basketball, swimming, and cheerleading.

School Calendar The school year includes 181 days and is divided into two 18 weeklong semesters. The average, typical course load is 7 courses each semester. The school day is comprised of four 80 minute classes that meet on an alternating day schedule.

Students at KIS are limited to: • one AP class sophomore year

• Students’ courses are weighted with AP classes receiving a half point (0.5) extra value for a grade of C- or better

• two AP classes junior year

• KIS does not rank

• three AP classes senior year

• Only classes taken at KIS are included in the student’s GPA

Students who meet certain requirements may be allowed to take additional AP classes.
