Assessment
The BTEC Level 2 First Award in Art & Design is a practical, work-related course, designed to prepare students for work in the Creative Industry through working on vocationally-relevant projects, scenarios & activities. The course further develops student’s awareness of Creative Industries & their future careers. Students take part in a range of workshops as well as class work on a range of pathways that include: Photography, Creative Crafts, Visual Arts, Fashion & Textiles, Visual Communication . 100% coursework 4 Units - Unit 1 & Unit 2, plus 2 others Unit 1: Introduction to Specialist Pathways in Art & Design Unit 2: Creative project in Art & Design Unit 3: Communicating Ideas in 2D Unit 4: Communicating Ideas in 3D Unit 5: Developing an Art & Design Portfolio Unit 6: Investigating Contextual References in Art & Design Units 1, 3 & 4 are internally written & assessed by Mrs Yuill & Mrs Iwejua, with a visit from the EDEXCEL Standards Verifier at the end of each year. Unit 2 is externally written & assessed by an EDEXCEL Examiner at the end of Y11.

Creative industry jobs increased by 5.5 per cent in 2014, more than double the 2.1 per cent national average rise in UK employment. When the 1.8m jobs specifically in the creative industries are added to the number of creative jobs in non-creative organisations, the total UK creative economy accounted for 2.8m jobs. IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU... Students interested will need to have a keen interest in art, craft & design. Students should be committed to developing their skills & techniques with a range of 2D & 3D materials. Students will need to be committed to working independently & also be able to evaluate their own & other people’s work professionally & effectively. Students will need to be able to meet deadlines & work to the best of their ability at all times, as all work produced will count towards your final grade.
