Lawn Hill National Park, in Queensland’s western Gulf Country, will come as a pleasant surprise with its rocky ramparts and lush palm filled landscape. Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way before arriving at Riversleigh/Miyumba, where we will meet our guide for a tour of the richest fossil mammal site in the world. Day 3 Wed Aug 16 BLD This morning we’ll travel aboard Adels Grove’s state of the art solar electric powered pontoon boat on the Cruise Lawn Hill Gorge sightseeing tour. This hour long guided tour cruises the tranquil Lawn Hill Creek winding its way through the breathtaking Lawn Hill Gorge, Boodjamulla National Park. There’ll be time to relax with a picnic lunch, enjoy a walk or even hire a canoe (own expense). There are several walks that are graded from easy to moderate for those who would like to see more of the park. Day 4 Thu Aug 17 BLD Our journey today will take us to the last Queensland town before the Queensland/Northern Territory border. Their stories are showcased in this unique art and cultural centre which offers visitors an opportunity to learn about aboriginal life, history and the land in the Tennant Creek region. Visit Battery Hill early evening, for an underground mine tour where you will see the working machinery in action in a modern gold mining tunnel with special lighting to highlight the gold extraction. A barbeque dinner will follow before returning to your motel.

Day 7 Sun Aug 20 BLD Depart Tennant Creek and travel south, stopping at the eerie and majestic Aboriginal Dreaming site of Karlu Karlu which white Australia christened the Devils Marbles. The fascinating geological marvel can be explored through a short self-guided walking trail with informative signage, viewing the red rocks that range in size from 50cm to 6 metres wide, balancing precariously on top of one another. Continue on to Barrow Creek, which was the chosen site for an Overland Telegraph Morse Repeater Station, linking Australia to Europe and providing essential communication services. Enjoy lunch at the Barrow Creek Hotel which still has the original old bar, underground cellar and tin ceilings from the old pub, built in 1926. This afternoon travel via the tiny town of Ti-Tree before arriving into Alice Springs, which lies in the physical and spiritual heart of Australia’s Red Centre.
