Learning Opportunity 4 Creating and Making 2 Year Level: Level 4 AusVELS standards to be addressed: Students will “create and present works in a range of arts forms that communicate experiences, ideas, concepts, observations and feelings” and “show evidence of arts knowledge when planning arts works for different purposes and audiences and identify techniques and features of other people’s works that inform their own arts making” (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, 2013). Lesson Duration: 50 minutes Activities: The students will create their own water colour artwork that demonstrates their knowledge of Eric Carle. This artwork will be based on the student’s individual interpretation of Eric Carle’s Mister Seahorse book, which features watercolour artwork of seahorses. The artwork will include different textures, which can be created by adding materials such as buttons, ribbon, paper, etc. onto the completed dried watercolour. *This lesson should be the final lesson in a unit on Eric Carle, as it allows students to demonstrate their development of understanding throughout the unit. Assessment: Students will self-assess their artwork, outlining what aspects of their art demonstrate the style of Eric Carle. This will be done on a page in their sketchbook, next to their artwork. The teacher will then assess this package according to the level of understanding and insight the student has demonstrated through their self-assessment.
