Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico 29 March 2017 To whom it may concern: My name is María del Carmen Gómez Balleza, I’m 26 years old and I’m from Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I have a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences since 2012. I’ve been working for 6 years in different administrative areas for The Mexican Social Security Institute (Spanish: Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social), which is a governmental organization that assists public health and social security in Mexico. I am currently working in the human resources department and as a teacher of the Official Nursing Course of the same Institution since 2014, imparting the modules of Didactic and Human Development. During the 7th semester of my college studies, from September 2011 to February 2012, I studied abroad as an exchange student in the University of Granada in Spain. This first international experience led me to accomplish a great number of personal and professional achievements, being immersed in a multicultural environment allowed me to develop a high global understanding, self-awareness and to become more independent. In addition to this first international experience, last summer I participated in a 2 week volunteering project in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, through Solidarités Jeunesses Vietnam, an international youth Non Governmental Organization. I worked with a multicultural team; together we daily organized leisure activities and taught Basic English through games and songs to poor children of a night school and to disabled kids in an orphanage. This internship strengthened my adaptability to different cultural behaviours and traditions. I have a great interest in learning new languages, currently I’m studying French. I would like to take the opportunity to improve my English and learn a new foreign language since this would help me to become more competitive. I firmly believe that we should develop as much as possible our skills, share them and learn from the people around us. We need to increase our global view and collaboration with people from different cultures, I live in a city with a big amount of social mobility and diversity, in the past years, many transnational companies came to my region to establish their factories, as a result people from all over the world, mainly from Asia are residing in my city. I have free days at work this summer, so I think it’s a great opportunity to participate again as a volunteer and turn back to my country with a lot of knowledge that I can apply in my job and daily life. What I can contribute to the organization, in addition to my enthusiasm for collaborating with others, is my open, always eager to learn attitude. Working on a team of different people makes me comfortable and curious, I can also contribute with my teaching skills and provide a wide range of approaches from Mexico, our view and culture. I consider that participating as a volunteer is an appealing opportunity to feed our multicultural abilities to the improvement of the global society and our human relations and to make a positive impact in the world we live in. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration, I would be very glad to collaborate with you in this amazing experience. Sincerely, María del Carmen Gómez Balleza.
