March 2017 Hello Sunbeam Parents! It is almost spring! The 4/5 class will be working on the letters V, W, X, Y and Z. We will also be doing the numbers 13, 14, 15. We are continuing to write both our first and last names. Thank you to those parents who have been working with their child on writing first and last names and reviewing numbers and letters. Some areas that we have noticed we need some extra help with are putting lower and upper case letters together. Some ways you can help your child would be to flash cards with upper and lower case letters and they need to match them. Then have them write them as well. There is also a great App called Letter Quiz and Number Quiz that costs $1.99 that is a fun way for practicing their letters and numbers. These are things that they will need to be able to do before going to kindergarten. They will also need to be able to write their first and last name, recognize colors and shapes, recognize the letters in the alphabet, count to 20. Also before Spring Break we will be sending home graduation parts for the 4/5 class to memorize for the graduation program in May. We will start working on our program mid March. Please work with your child to memorize his/her part. Also we will begin some reading groups after spring break based on your child’s assessment ability and classroom performance. We want to challenge those who need to be challenged and help those who are still learning their letters and sounds. Grandparents Day will be held on Wednesday, March 1 beginning at 10:00. The kids will be singing and doing a special activity with their grandparents. We invite the children to bring their grandparents for this special day. Below is the list of items each child needs to bring for Grandparents Day. On Wednesday, March 8, we will be celebrating Dr Seuss day and Read Across America. We invite the kids to wear their pajamas to school on this day. We will be reading some Dr Suess stories as well as doing several Dr Seuss activities. Our Spring Break this year will be March 20-24.
