Read  the  Bible  passage  (preferably  without  using  commentaries).   Begin  to  answer  the  questions  using  your  own  words.   Questions  are  based  on  the  New  International  Version  (NIV)  2011  edition.

2.    V12  states:  “For  the  Word  of  God  is  _______________  and  ________________.”  What  do  you  think  those  2  words   mean  in  terms  of  the  Bible’s  influence  in  a  person’s  life?         3.    a)    Today,  media  saturates  our  culture  with  words,  thus  minimizing  the  impact  of  words.  How  does     Isaiah  55:10-‐13  illustrate  God’s  Word  as  “alive  and  active”?

  b)    Looking  back  to  55:8-‐9,  what  is  Isaiah’s  view  of  God  versus  man?         4.    a)    In  V12,  how  is  the  Word  of  God  like  a  sword,  and  what  is  significant  about  that  visual?           b)    How  is  the  sword  used,  and  what  does  it  ultimately  reveal?  (V12)         5.    When  have  you  felt  the  penetrating  cut  of  His  Word  through  your  thoughts  or  attitudes?           6.    a)    Contrast  the  inner  use  of  the  sword  in  Hebrews  4:12  with  how  it  is  pictured  in  Ephesians  6:17.         b)    How  else  is  the  Word  pictured  in  Jeremiah  23:29,  and  how  does  it  enlarge  your  view  of  its  power?

9.    a)    Steep  in  Psalm  19:7-‐11.  What  are  some  of  the  qualities  and  benefits  of  the  Word  of  God?
