Applied photography as a dual system
LINHOF M 679 ADJUS I W CAMERA R 0 L L F I L M ,IA N D DIG I TAL Ro/lfilm magazines and Polaroid cassettes for the Linhof M 679. Combining existing medium format equipment with the M 679 for a perfect view camera with all adjustment facilities.
The clever dual system
E
very medium format photographer knows the limitations of their system, even with costly shift and tilt
lenses with small adjustment facilities. For many photographers, control of perspective, converging verticals and creative movements have meant the move to view or field cameras to obtain the optimum in picture quality. The Linhof M 679 is the clever solution: a compact view camera for large extensions, logical technique and long term precision elements. The Linhof M 679 is a dual system covering the formats 6 x 6cm /2 1/ 4 x 2 1/4 in. - 6 x 9 cm /2 1/4 x 3 1/4 in. Whether classic rollfilm photography or digital workflow, the Linhof M 679 offers compatability to the commonly used medium format systems as well as to digital backs of scan and chip technique. Special adapters for each systems are the link. Whether classic rollfilm or digital imaging: the new Linhof system is a safe and surprisingly low cost investment.
The High-Tech digital backs for scan and chip technique are easily and safely accepted by the M 679 thus linking digital imaging with the advantages of perfect applied photography.

Fast movement technique, compact measurements, great operatin g comfort and a maximum of flexibility.
THE TECHNIQUE OF T HE M 679 Lens and back standards are steplessly moved in tilt segments around the vertical and horizontal axis for yaw-free camera movements. The camera remains stable at any displacement. Zero click stops for practically all adjustments permit fast findings of basic positions.

and locking of any position of lens and film plane. Zero click stops and precise scales for all adjustments are self-understood. There is no complicated handling, no special know-how necessary: The camera is aligned with the object by the panorama benchholder. The solidly made optical bench which, without any complicated adaptation or extra elements, permits abundant bellows extension without the need of extension rails. The lens and rear standards both pivot on parabolic segments around the camera's horizontal axis. Resulting in easy yawfree operation and avoidance of converging lines by precise orientation to vertical planes. Micro drives serve to swing and tilt to control the depth-of-field. The camera remains stable in any displacement. This is especially important when using heavy backs. Precision micro
The wide-angle bellows is double-folded permitting extreme extensions. The bellows is used for focal lengths of 35 - 90 mm. The picture shows a shifted camera achieved with a tilted optical bench and the lens and rear standard adjusted to vertical.
drives and clamping elements serve for exact, fast and error-free finding and locking of any position of lens and film plane so that the user is left to concentrate his attention on the groundglass.
Typical studio sitaatitm: 1. With the aid of the integrated panorama tilt head the camera is set to the object. The base of the camera is an optical bench with two parallel rails. Although extremely compact, the camera offers a maximum extension of 326 mm (12.8") for long focal lengths. Lenses from 35 mm wide-angle to 240 mm tele are usable.
The depth-of-field optimizer of the optical bencl, of the M 679 with interchangeable format dial serves for exactly determining tile depth-of-field.
4
Camera with lateral parallel displacement achieved by turning the back and lens standard around the vertical axis.
Any studio camera requires a pan/tilt head or ballhead. The Linhof M 679 is supplied with an integr.ated panorama benchholder offering many advantages. The built-in zero click-stop and load compensation by spring tensioned device greatly facilitates the displacements. Any displacement starts with the positioning of the benchholder. All parallel adjustments either rise or drop are executed by tilting the optical bench.
Complicated photos in applied photography are realized without major efforts with the Linhof M 679 . The logical adjusting system provides increasing depth-of-field and control of perspective within minutes. There is no complicated handling, no special know-how necessary but only logical operation as per the following example:
2. To avoid converging vertical details lens and rear standard are adjusted to vertical with the aid of the spirit level.
3. Scheimpflug for increased depth-of-field. In this case, the lens standard has to be tilted. Determine depth-offield and aperture with the aid of the depth-offield optimizer.

Apart from the adapter system for medium format cameras special accessories are available such as groundglass 3x3 for corresponding chip sizes, a magnifier viewing system, a Kodak special adapter, the Leaf filter-wheel holder and, of course, the latest digital lenses. Only with electronic shutter systems can all the controls of digital one and multishot backs be fully used. For this purpose, We recommend the Rollei Direct Drive Shutter and the Horseman ISS System.
DIGITAL LENSES The new generation of digital lenses offer the specially high resolution necessary to produce optimum image information at small chip sizes in digital ima• ging techniques . The lens manufacturer Schneider Kreuznach offers their Apo-Componon HM lenses for un}ye rsal use. Rodenstock offers the Apo-Sironar Digital lens 5.6/90 mm which is practically distortion-free and without colour fringes even at edges with high contrast. We furthermore recommend for universally use Rodenstock lenses Apo-Rodagons - N .
