Transfer Guide – Lake Superior College The B.A. in Communication emphasizes the breadth and diversity of the communication discipline, and includes instruction in the areas of interpersonal communication, mass media, and rhetorical theory and practice. The integrated focus of this degree trains students in social scientific, historical, and cultural approaches to improve their understanding and application of communication processes and practices. Students are prepared for employment in a wide variety of settings and gain hands-on experience and competence through opportunities in research, internships and community partnerships.   LSC course

UMD Liberal Education Requirements*: http://z.umn.edu/liberaleduc *Liberal Education Requirements can be fulfilled by an Associate of Arts Degree or completing the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum; students are strongly encouraged bring in an AA or MNTC. UST 1000 - UMD Seminar (1.0-2.0 cr) Core Courses (12 cr) Students must complete the core with a C or better to be admitted to COMM 5000. COMM 1000 - Human Communication Theory [SOC SCI] (3.0 cr) COMM 2025 - Communication Inquiry: Rhetorical and Historical Methods (3.0 cr) COMM 2030 - Communication Inquiry: Social Scientific Methods (3.0 cr) COMM 1112 - Public Speaking [COMM & LAN] (3.0 cr) or COMM 1511 - Honors: Public Speaking [COMM & LAN] (3.0 cr) Electives Seven elective courses totaling 21 credits are required. One course is required from each distributed electives area. An additional 12 credits must be completed. Within these 12 credits, six credits must be COMM 3xxx level or above with the following restrictions: COMM 3300, 3310, 4394, 4397, 4399, and 5391 do not apply to the major, but do apply as elective credit(s) towards the degree. Students must meet all course and credit requirements of the departments and colleges or schools in which they are enrolled including an advanced writing course. Students must complete all requirements of Liberal Education program. Students must complete a minimum of 120 semester credits. Cumulative University of Minnesota GPA of 2.00 or higher is required for graduation from UMD. (Transfer credits and grades from outside the University of Minnesota are not calculated into the U of MN GPA.) A minimum U of MN GPA of 2.00 is required in each UMD undergraduate major and minor. At least 30 of the last 60 degree credits earned immediately before graduation must be awarded by UMD. Students must complete at least half of their courses at the 3xxx-level and higher at UMD. If a minor is required, students must take at least three upper division credits (3xxx or higher) in their minor field from UMD.
