I was responsible for Internet Architecture and related projects (including one EU/Esprit project), as well as providing custom solutions for commercial partners. 1998 through 2002: Fujitsu Principal Consultant for Internet Business, Financial and Electronic Business Services Divisions, Fujitsu-ICL plc, London. My clients were all blue-chips in the financial services sector, among them VISA, Barclays, Natwest, UBS, and LIFFE. 2002 to present: Madsen Since leaving Fujitsu-ICL, I have been working independently, based in Cambridge and Geneva. This focuses on providing business development consulting to businesses working in the IT industry, Internet business, application service provision, and financial platforms. To these businesses, I supply key strengths in project funding, business planning, technical awareness, development of partner relations, and capital negotiation.

Recent Projects The list of my recent projects includes:     

A Geneva-based start-up formed to develop lightweight micro-financing processes and protocols based on mobile telephone platforms; A London-based specialist software house to build new client relationships with banks in Switzerland for their asset management solution; A leading international derivatives trading house to finance and set up an Internetbased derivatives trading platform; A bespoke solutions development consultancy to create an ASP business around a range of management service products; A specialist financial services consultancy to develop their relationship portfolio with a view to creating an agency for supplying projects to their key partner, a global development house; A worldwide charity to streamline their operations using Internet models, and develop their business using Internet demographics – which differ greatly from their current supporter profiles; A graphic design consultancy to analyse their key business processes, develop a management strategy for information and account handling, and prioritise their effort towards profit maximisation; A start-up developing component software to define their ability to manage bespoke consultancy, specify and recruit staff of the correct calibre, and draw up quality plans for client processing, component development life cycles, and internal communications. A company planning an Internet-based trading service for financial instruments, to define the strategic architecture and evaluate the partnerships that would be required (both in terms of technological and regulatory roles).

Selected Career Highlights Internet Business Card Payments I worked with Visa Europe to set up the pan-European electronic commerce relationship under which Visa and Fujitsu-ICL were collaborating to accelerate the take-up of Visa purchasing, and under which Fujitsu-ICL was the system integrator recommended by Visa for electronic commerce solutions involving corporate purchasing. This relationship was pursued with banks in France, Italy, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. I led this activity from Fujitsu-ICL. The result of this alliance was that I was able to close a deal with British Gas for a contract worth £50M to Fujitsu-ICL over 3 years. Esprit Project Management My largest project involved defining and managing an Esprit Project for the European Commission. This was Esprit project 20.563: End-to-End Security for Electronic Business on the Internet. This ran from September 1995 through December 1997 with a total budget of about 10 million Euros. Project partners included Hewlett-Packard (Bristol and Grenoble), Gemplus, the Technical University of Berlin, Citrix-APM, Visa International, GMD the German National Research Centre and Swiss Bank Corporation (now UBS). I coordinated the project team of nearly 100 people located around Europe. This project developed and disseminated much of the current technology used for e-business. I was personally responsible to the EU for managing the finance of the project, overseeing project and partner coordination, and presenting the project at several international conferences. I

was one of the key designers of the overall security architecture used in the project. Reference: http://www.w3journal.com/7/s3.madsen.wrap.html Selling E-Government While at Fujitsu-ICL I led a team that worked with the UK Department of Trade and Industry and the Council of British Universities to define the next generation of government information system provision. I sold the solution into the DTI and CBU and coordinated the resulting work with the other partners (KPMG and Microsoft). The overall project value was in the region of £5M. Secure Internet Share Trading This was a RAD (rapid application development) project taking 4 months, with completion at the end of April 1997, undertaken for a major global trading bank (UBS). I directed the consultancy team responsible for enterprise analysis, technology assessment, and architecture. I then managed the project and liaised with the bank's business teams to ensure full integration of the resulting secure access control system with the back-end trading system. Internet Information System Architecture This was a multi-cycle project conducted for Bellcore over 12 months (completed September 1997). It involved the analysis, architecture, and design, of an Intranet/Extranet information system to automate the selection and delivery of user-centred information, tightly coupled with the telecommunications system. I sold the project and was also responsible overall for timescale and cost analysis of the proposal, negotiation of contract, and management of the project team for the duration. ANSAweb: Internet Interoperability Architecture This was a key part of the ANSA Project funded by the European Union under ESPRIT (ANSAweb was completed in December 1995). The project was the first to develop an interoperability architecture for the World Wide Web. This was achieved by using a CORBA-based object model and folding a lightweight ORB into the WWW library. The working prototype was demonstrated at the 4th International World Wide Web Conference in December 1995. I led and managed the development team and designed the system architecture, and I presented the work at the session on the topic of Web Objects at the conference.
