News from Martha Saint-Berberian October 3rd – December 31, 2015 Dear Friends and Family, Three months have gone by since our last letter, and we just celebrated with all the family our 50th anniversary. So many memorable experiences together in 25 countries! And of the 50 years, 38 of them spent in Guatemala. We are truly an international family because Sam was born in Greece, me in New Jersey, Steve and Lisa in Argentina and Susy in Guatemala. God has been good to us and we praise him for having called us to serve in His work. TRIP TO CHICAGO. From October 15-29 I had a blessed trip to Chicago with eight opportunities to share the Word in two hispanic churches. In the First Church of the Nazarene of Chicago I shared four topics related to the family: Steps to marriage happiness; The role of the wife with her husband; The role of the mother in the formation of her children; and Steps to develop family unity. José and Irma Alfaro are doing an excellent pastoral job in that place of so much need. In the Christian Life Center of Blue Island, Illinois, I had the honor to work with pastor William Arévalo (foto left), who graduated from the Frederick Crowe Institute in 1996, and later participated in my class taking the course Techniques of Investigation in the Universidad Panamericana, School of Theology. The research paper he wrote as part of the course (about worship in the church) has been read by thousands of people via Internet. ¡Excellent topic! As his church is bi-lingual, I shared the talks in English and Melek, his wife, translated. The topics were: Understanding the changing roles in the life of a woman; two writers workshops with a small group; and Sunday morning a topic on missions: Get out of your rut, find a new mountain to climb because God wants to use you (foto top right). In West Chicago I met with my Brooker cousins (my mother was a Brooker) that I had not seen in 35 years, and spent a delightful time looking at photo albums of our grandfather Brooker (foto top left). Who organized it all was Julie Berry (daughter of my cousin Walter Lee). And to finish up the days in Chicago, I spent several pleasant hours with several of my students from the Centro de Entrenamiento Bíblico El Calvario, who I had not seen in 36 years. The love expressed by students for their teacher was very meaningful. GRADUATION OF THE FREDERICK CROWE INSTITUTE In November was the graduation of 44 students of the Instituto Federico Crowe, many of them sponsored, motivated to continue university studies and become professionals. One step at a time to leave poverty behind. Thanks to the sponsors that made the sacrifice to help them with their tuition. Without this help they wouldn't have been able to study. In November we had our Assembly for Doulos Foundation (see photo below) to plan the budget for 2016. We are grateful to Margarita SandovalRodríguez, as manager of the foundation (foto front left), and grateful for the support of each member, representing different professions.
