MATAPU SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL POLICY 1. The swimming pool will be fenced in accordance with the Fencing of Swimming Pools Act 1987. 2. Ensure the gate closes securely at all times with a self-closing mechanism. 3. Pool chemicals will be locked away at all times. Pool equipment will not be stored in the same area. 4. The quality of the pool water should fulfil the requirements of the New Zealand standard NZS5826:2000. 5. Staff will be trained in water quality management and swim teaching. 6. Swimming pool supervision during school hours – 7. During any session when the pool is in use there shall be one person designated as the swimming pool supervisor who will supervise the pool at all times. The supervisor will have a cell phone. 8. Matapu Schools user’s code reflects the Board of Trustees expectations for pool use and user behaviour.

Matapu School Pool Users Code. To ensure your safety, and the safety and enjoyment of other pool users, the Matapu School Board of Trustees have established the following code of behaviour for all pool users.

Be aware of pool depth. The depth ranges from 0.85m to 1.1m

First person during each day please remove the cover carefully - if you are last at the pool please put the cover on.

Children under the age of 14 must be supervised at all times Never swim while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Take additional care if you have a medical condition such as epilepsy, asthma, diabetes or a heart condition. No running, jumping, or diving into the pool. Boogie boards, surf boards, kayaks are not to be used in this pool.

Ensure the pool gate is securely closed when you enter and leave the pool area.

Carrying a cell phone is recommended outside school hours for emergency purposes. Supervisors must have their own first aid kit at the pool.
