May Measurement Month country leader toolkit How to set up a May Measurement Month screening site May Measurement Month can be delivered from a wide range of venues, including clinics, pharmacies, places of worship, and community sites. Locations You have complete discretion when it comes to selecting locations for your screening sites and which partners — such as pharmacies or clinics — you work with. Ideally, there should be onsite access to wifi or 4G and if there are any charges for your screening locations, such as room rental or wifi access, these need to be covered locally. The ISH has arranged public liability insurance if this is required — the insurance certificate can be downloaded from www.maymeasure.com/downloads. You will also need to ensure that all your venues meet local health and safety requirements. Equipment There are three ways to record blood pressure measurements… ● Using the MMM17 app with a mobile phone, tablet or laptop (you need wifi or 4G) ● Using the document we provide (you need a laptop or tablet but can do this offline) ● Using the paper version of the document (you don’t need a laptop or tablet). You and your teams can find out how to use the MMM17 app by downloading How to Use the MMM17 App from www.maymeasure.com/downloads. This also covers using the document we provide. If your volunteers don’t use the app, they will need to send on the measurements to you as country leader. You can download the document from www.maymeasure.com/downloads to use offline on a laptop or to print out and complete by hand. 1
May Measurement Month country leader toolkit The temperature of the room where your local volunteers are taking measurements also ideally needs to be measured. They can use an app or a physical thermometer which will need to be sourced locally. This is important as room temperature is one of the key MMM17 criteria, but don’t let the lack of a thermometer prevent anyone from running a screening session. To carry out the blood pressure readings, every site will of course need one or more automated electronic devices or conventional sphygmomanometers. Global supplier Omron Healthcare is making 20,000 electronic devices available free of charge, and some country leaders have made local arrangements with other suppliers. In some cases, your volunteers may already have access to preferred equipment, or it may already been on site. How many tables and chairs will be needed depends on the size of the location. As a minimum, every site needs somewhere for members of the public to sit while they’re waiting, and a table and two chairs for recording measurements. The screening table needs to be large enough to accommodate the measuring equipment, and a laptop and/or phone, and have space for the person being screened to rest their forearm. The chair for the person being screened needs to support their back and be of the right height to allow their feet to rest on the floor. The volunteer carrying out the screening also needs a chair. Publicising MMM events May Measurement Month is being promoted globally by a leading UK public relations agency using mainstream media and social media. You’re encouraged to further raise MMM17’s profile by engaging with the media in your country and we have created a media toolkit to help you do this. You can download this from www.maymeasure.com/downloads. We’ve set up dedicated MMM accounts for… ● Twitter (twitter.com/MayMeasure17) 2

Please join the conversation on any or all of these platforms to help spread the word about how you are delivering MMM17 in your country, and please also keep us informed about what you’re doing locally. We’ve also created a promotional poster and flyer that you and your local volunteers can download and customise to include screening site locations, opening hours, and any other information relevant to their communities. You can download these from www.maymeasure.com/downloads. There is also a pop-up banner that you can use both as a promotional tool and at screening sites. Download the print-ready artwork from www.maymeasure.com/downloads and then get your banners made locally — you will need to budget for this. If you have questions about setting and publicising MMM screening sites that aren't answered here, please see if they are covered in our FAQs for Country Leaders which you can download from www.maymeasure.com/downloads, or email us at
