Vacancies for various positions in Mercy Corps supported Projects in India Mercy Corps is an international humanitarian agency who has been supporting local NGOs in India since 2001. Mercy Corps has responded through its partner NGOs to a number of humanitarian emergencies namely Gujarat Earthquake in 2001, Kashmir Earthquake in 2005, Conflicts in Assam in 2012-13, Uttarakhand Flood in 2013 and PostPhailin Flood in Odisha in 2013. Apart from responding to emergencies, Mercy Corps has supported a number of development programs related to Livelihood, Health, WASH and Education. Mercy Corps is currently looking for capable and committed Project Managers and Project Officers for its projects in Assam and Odisha. Short description of the positions and projects are as follows: POSITIONS Project Manager The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that Mercy Corps supported project is implemented in an effective and efficient manner. The Project Manager is overall responsible for the day to day implementation of program. The Project Manager will work closely both with management and support staffs (including finance, administration and program) to ensure the day to day activities are implemented according to schedule, budget and required quality. The Project Manager will assist in outlining a strategic plan for the implementation of this program including identifying target areas/projects, methods of operation for effective programming and maximum results. S/he will work with the project(s) teams; liaise with relevant authorities and other organizations to ensure the implementation of quality project. Project Officer Working in the Program team under the direction of the Project Manager, the Project Officer will be responsible for fulfillment of expected results of the project. The ability to interact effectively with international and national personnel is required. A demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing program activities is necessary. A high professional standard of finance and procurement ethics as well as the willingness and ability to enforce compliance with Mercy Corps, the partners and donor policies and procedures is essential. PROJECTS Assam At present, North-east India has 100,000 displaced people, with the highest concentrations in Assam, Tripura and Manipur. Continuous political and identity-based instability, very poor infrastructure, remote and difficult terrain and geographical isolation has increased vulnerability and reduced resilience to shocks, whether natural or manmade. Mercy Corps will support its partner NGOs with funds from the European Commission for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) – pending funding for next phase-to improve food security, livelihood and WASH strategies for communities in Assam affected by recurrent emergencies
Odisha On the night of October 11th, 2013, Cyclone Phailin - a category 5 cyclone - made landfall on the coast of Odisha, India with wind speeds up to 220 km per hour. From October 12-14th, more than 200 cm of rain was recorded creating unprecedented flooding in many districts and causing further destruction. According to Government of India reports, the cyclone and the resulting floods, which damaged 800,000 homes and over 860,000 hectares of land and standing crops, have affected more than half of Odisha’s 42 million person population1. Mercy Corps will support its partner NGO with a grant from USAID-pending funding - to improve food security of 17,500 people in flood affected villages of Mayurbhanj and Baleshwar districts of Odisha.
