1st Sunday of Lent 5th March 2017 ‘Led by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Eucharist, we grow in unity and love of God, reaching out to all people with compassion and kindness, and working for justice and peace.’
Dear Friends Last Tuesday I attended an Archdiocesan Ministry Formation Day along with Fr Stefano and LPL Sharon Penny. It was held in St Thomas Moore Church Foyer, Wilton for all priests and lay pastoral leaders. The day was led by Cardinal John and Father Alan Roberts. As you can imagine from recent announcements from Cardinal John, the subject matter we looked at was the forthcoming
Synod in September. One of the things that struck me during the day was the hope of Cardinal John, for a more united Archdiocese with strong leadership, reaching out beyond ourselves to meet the many needs of the age we live in, for example refugees and migrants, young people and marriages. Another factor to consider in this journey to the Synod are the folk selected from parishes to attend. It was pointed out they are not representing the parish they reside in, they are there for the common good of the Archdiocese and how best we ALL meet the challenges facing us at this time. This means we must all have an open mind and heart for the good of our Archdiocese, our Cardinal John, priests, lay pastoral leaders and people. The hope of the Synod then, is that we be a listening people, first and foremost to the Spirit of God with us and then to one another, building up among us, a strong Catholic identity with a common purpose and mission. Might I suggest we commit the Synod Prayer, “Go you are Sent” to our daily prayer, especially as we begin this season of Lent, we are also encouraged to pray it in our weekend Masses. So in other words, we are sent out to proclaim, tell others the Good News of who are in Jesus Christ and the share we have in his Mission to the world we live in.
Happy Lent
Fr Bruce Our One Parish News
Tenā koutou katoa, Saturday 11th March is fast approaching and I’d like to remind you of the liturgy workshop that will be happening Saturday week. As advised on 31 January, it is offered for all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Ministers of Communion to the Sick in Wairarapa and Hutt Valley parishes, especially those who have been unable to attend earlier workshops. The details again are below: Saturday 11th March St. Teresa Featherston Church Hall 50 Bell Street Featherston 10.30-12.00 noon The workshop is aimed at people currently active in ministry and people contemplating a role in either of these ministries. At the moment, we have only received 7 registrations and need more if he is to be encouraged to hold workshops in the Wairarapa in future. Anyone who has been to one of Father Patrick’s workshops will whole heartedly attest to their worth, so please can you reforward this email to all members of your church communities that are active ministers and advertise in it in your Parish bulletin this weekend. Registrations to
[email protected] by 6th March please. If you have any queries, please contact me. Mā te Atua tātou katoa e manaaki,
May God keep us all in His care, Debbie Matheson In reflection of the above We ask as the Pastoral Team please give your full support to this workshop as we have been asking the Diocese on your behalf to extend their workshops here in the Wairarapa. It will be disappointing if we are given this opportunity for it only to be discouraged in the future, through lack of attendance. 1st Sunday of Lent Prayer Lord our God, in every age you call a people to hear your word and to do your will. Renew us in these Lenten days: washed clean of sin, sealed with the Spirit, and sustained by your living bread, may we remain true to our calling and, with the elect, serve you alone. Grant this through Christ, our liberator from sin, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.
