It is with immense pride that I share wit]: you my happiness on assuming t.I.e positiqn of chairman, Railway Board. ThiJ is not only an onerous responsibility but also a challenge being the administrative head of this great orgarrizatton, which is also the lifeline of the nation. At this critical jirncture when we are facing a serious issue with the image perceptiott of- the railwa5rs; I expect all my fellow Railv.raymen to pitch In wholeheartedly to set this perceprion right. I' am iure, wittr your c9o-nelation, w€ will be able to achieve and re-establish the pristine glory of the brand Indian Railwavs. Indian Railways is indeed a great organiz, ation.ihe targest employer in the world. und.er a singlg ma-qagement, we are the rvheels on which the nation moves. Spreading from Kanyakurnari in the South to Baramulla in the North, Dibrugarh in the East to Okha in the West, this great monolith indeed touches almost the entire length and breadth of thG great nation and thereby the lives of almost all the citizens of this nation. Tf,e sincerity, dedication and professional capabitity of tJre railway employees, bqg, oflicers and staJf is indeed unparallelid, It is the *"n.on the-field,who, regardless of their personal inconveniences'and hardships,-This ensure that the wheels of the Nation keep moving surely and safelf is what rnakes the Indian Railways the most visible slrmbol of dyr1a4{c delivery in our countr5r. After spending over 41 years with the lailways, this appointment as the head of the railway flmily has touched tl1e inner core of my heart and mekes me extremely gratefuI'to the almighty. Besides being a humbling moment, it also strengthens my resolve to put in my life and soul for thE welfare and the forward march of this great oiganization. :
. The great Indian Railways has suffered. a serious dent in the recent past due to certain unfortunate incidents. Such incidents often overshadow the great work that this organization performs day in and day out. Let us, therefore, resoive to bring about an all-round improvement in the working of the railways so that we are abie to satisfactorily meet'the hopes, expectations and aspirations of the vb.stmultitude. 'SAFETY shall always remain our principal focus area. We have to alwayd be on our guard to ensure thJ highist level of safety: in train operations and lnstil a renelved sense of confidence in ciur esteemed, passengers.

CLEANLINESS at stations and on trains is another area that is crying for attention a:rd often contributes to ont i.nr.g". si*itJ; quality of CATERING and LINEN on trains ir L-*.* of serious concern. we have to work in a mission modg"G;to bring about quantitative and qualitative improvements in a very short time irame in these areas, while at tlle sanRetime not losing sighi of the fact that the railways needs an overatt improvement to ?ot"r ;;;; iti.f""tiorr. At the same time we also have to deal with the evils of corruption, ,sexuatharassmenlat *:Ik gt;"*;&;;h.r';;;;;il;;' These & are social evils and need to be dealt firmly with an iron hand.
I personally believe in avoiding any-frills in the form of bouquets, grfts, lavish celebrations, excessive pr-oto"ol.t".
