The neighborhood is in the process of revitalizing and has seen millions of dollars in investment over the past several years. These grassroot development efforts are being spearheaded by the Layton Boulevard West Neighbors, an innovative community development organization dedicated to revitalizing the Silver City, Burnham Park, and Layton Park neighborhoods. LBWN was founded by the School Sisters of St. Francis. During 2011, the Menomonee Valley Passage was built connecting Silver City to the Hank Aaron State Trail and the Menomonee Valley Industrial Corridor. The third branch of the Urban Ecology Center recently opened in September 2012 adjacent to the Valley Passage at S. 37th St. and W. Pierce St.. The unique mix of a residential neighborhood, natural beauty, ethnic diversity, and Milwaukee industry serve as an inspiration for this project.
