2) Suggested changes to the M&R Awards: (i) DED M&R Committee Award update. A revised version of the process for the DED M&R Committee award has been submitted for review and approval by the committee. A copy of the revised procedure is attached. The monetary value of the following two awards has been increased this year from $ 500 to $ 1,000: (a) DED M&R Committee Award; and (b) Best Paper Award. DED MECHANISMS AND ROBOTICS COMMITTEE AWARD The Chair of the Honors and Awards Subcommittee shall be responsible for conducting a ballot to select a recipient for the DED Mechanisms and Robotics Committee Award. The selection of an individual to receive this award will be made on the following basis. The award is to be given for a cumulative contribution to the field of mechanism design or theory. Continued distinction is to be a primary requisite. The award is to be made at each Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, if deemed appropriate. An individual may receive the award only one time. Members of the Mechanisms and Robotics Committee cannot be nominated to receive the award while they are members of said committee. The Award shall consist of a suitably engrossed certificate laminated in wood and a cash prize of $ 1,000. The award shall be financed by the Mechanisms and Robotics Committee from the Mechanisms and Robotics Award Account. The mechanics for identifying, selecting, and nominating the recipient of this award is as follows. Item 1. The Chair of the Honors and Awards Subcommittee shall poll the members of the Mechanisms and Robotics Committee, at least two months before and Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, for recommendations of possible recipients of the award. Item 2. The list of names obtained from this poll shall be circulated by the Chair of the Honors and Awards Subcommittee to the members of the Mechanisms and Robotics Committee requesting that each of them designate their first, second, and third choices; then returning said choices to the Honors and Awards Chair. Item 3. The total vote will be tallied by the Chair of the Honors and Awards Subcommittee giving three points for a first choice, two points for a second choice, and one point for a third choice. Item 4. The individual receiving the highest tally shall be the recipient of the DED Mechanisms and Robotics Committee Award. Item 5. In the event of a tie, the Chair of the Honors and Awards Subcommittee shall request another vote from the members of the Mechanisms and Robotics Committee to break the tie.
