Welcome to Mrs. Webster’s 2
grade class!
I am so excited about having your child in my classroom. We are going to have a wonderful year. I am sending home this packet for you and your child to read. It includes discipline plans, homework, and other important information. Please read over it and if you have any questions you can e-mail me at
[email protected]. Please visit our second grade website at www.secondgradecubs.blogspot.com. There are links for each 2nd grade teacher, educational resources, website links, and materials that will be needed throughout the year. Classroom Goals and Discipline Procedures The students will strive daily to achieve these goals to keep a warm and welcoming classroom environment. 1) I will show RESPECT. 2) I will be a RESPONSIBLE student. 3) I will display GOOD MANNERS. 4) I will practice acts of KINDNESS. 5) I will promise to ALWAYS DO MY BEST! The classroom will run on a bracelet system for discipline. At the beginning of each day, your child will start with four bracelets. Each bracelet is worth 5 points towards the weekly conduct grade. Each time your child does not follow our rules, he/she will lose a bracelet. Before a bracelet is taken, a verbal warning will be given. If your child continues to have trouble following the rules, the following consequences will be enforced: 1. Loss of Privileges 2. Parent phone call/email/note home 3. Referral to the principal How does my child earn a conduct grade? Can you explain the points? Each day your child has 20 possible points to earn for behavior. Number of weekly points Misbehaviors result in losing points (bracelets) that day. At the 90-100 end of the week your child’s points are added to determine the 80-89 weekly behavior grade. All weekly points are then averaged for 70-79 a conduct grade for the report card. 69- below Daily Behavior will be noted in the agenda part in the BEAR Binder. By signing the daily behavior note, this signifies that you have seen your child’s behavior and discussed the behavior with your child. Positive Rewards At the end of the week, students that have not had any bracelets taken will receive a treat from the treasure chest. Homework Homework will be sent home on Fridays. It is designed so that you can complete the homework at your own pace based on your family’s schedule. Completed homework needs to be placed in the homework folder in the BEAR binder. Homework is due on the following Friday. Projects will be assigned throughout the year. Cub Reports Cub reports are a bi-weekly progress report for you to see your child’s progress both academically and behaviorally. Graded Papers will be sent home with the cub report on Tuesdays. Please sign the cub report and send back the folder with the report enclosed the next school day. Please remove the graded papers and keep them at home. Spelling, Reading, and Vocabulary Test Spelling in 2nd grade consists of 15 words based on a spelling pattern and sight words. On Friday, your child will take a pretest on the words. If your child misses 3 or fewer words, then he/she will be assigned the challenge words in addition to the original 15 words. If your child misses more than 3 words, only study the 15 words. Reading test will be on Wednesday and vocabulary test will be on Thursday. Vocabulary words are the challenge words on the homework/spelling word list. I know we will have a fantastic year in 2nd grade! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to get in touch with me by calling the school or by e-mail. The school number is 706-569-3664. Sincerely, Mrs. Webster
